Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician with experience in home maintenance and proven handyman capabilities. This is a hands-on, autonomous role with no supervisory responsibilities. The successful candidate will independently manage all maintenance operations for a portfolio of residential buildings, ensuring properties remain in excellent condition through proactive upkeep, rapid response to issues, and cost- effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive building inspections and create prioritized maintenance schedules for common areas, exteriors, roofs, mechanical systems, and landscaping in residences.
  • Execute skilled repairs and preventative maintenance across multiple trades, including plumbing (leaks, drainage, fixture replacement), carpentry, painting, drywall, tiling, and appliance servicing.
  • Respond promptly to reported issues, diagnosing problems on-site and completing fixes without external contractor involvement where feasible.
  • Coordinate with vendors for specialized work beyond handyman scope (e.g., major plumbing electrical issues, HVAC overhauls or structural engineering).
  • Maintain accurate digital records of all work completed, parts used, and warranty tracking via property management software.
  • Source materials cost-effectively while adhering to strata budgets and bylaws.
  • Ensure compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations, strata insurance requirements, and local building codes during all hands-on work.
  • Confirm seasonal preparations (winterization, gutter cleaning, irrigation startup/shutdown) and emergency response (storm damage, floods, lockouts).

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced handyman proficiency across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repairs (trade tickets an asset but not required).
  • Valid BC driver's license and reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursed).
  • Current OFA Level 1 or willingness to obtain.
  • Clean criminal record check.

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience supporting residents with disabilities (e.g., accessibility modifications, adaptive equipment installation, or patient interaction in care settings).
  • Experience working with strata council.

Essential Skills

  • Self-directed with exceptional time management—no oversight provided.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong diagnostic ability to troubleshoot building systems independently.
  • Professional, empathetic communication with strata councils, owners, and tenants—especially when assisting vulnerable residents.
