At CIMA+, we are seeking a skilled and experienced senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will work within multidisciplinary teams on a variety of challenging and rewarding projects, contributing significantly to the field of geotechnical engineering. This role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop both technical expertise and project management skills in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Projects may include the design and rehabilitation of roads, buildings, hydraulic structures, slope stabilization, dams, soil dynamics, and temporary and permanent retaining structures. You will have the opportunity to work with both public and private sector clients. While the focus is on Ontario-based projects, opportunities may arise to contribute to work across other regions of Canada.

We offer a flexible hybrid work model, enabling a mix of remote and office-based work in Mississauga, Burlington, Bowmanville, or Ottawa, allowing you to balance your professional and personal commitments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee geotechnical studies from planning through to reporting, ensuring technical excellence and quality deliverables.
  • Plan and design geotechnical projects by leading site investigations, including exploratory drilling, sampling, testing, and data analysis to provide actionable recommendations.
  • Analyze field, laboratory, and geological data to assess soil and rock behavior, stability, load-bearing capacity, and settlement characteristics.
  • Develop geotechnical engineering recommendations and prepare technical reports, including foundation design, slope stability assessments, excavation/backfill guidelines, and groundwater observations.
  • Design geotechnical solutions and prepare technical drawings and specifications for earthworks, retaining structures, slope stabilization, erosion protection, and other infrastructure elements.
  • Provide technical input and support to multidisciplinary teams on infrastructure and dam projects, including tunnels, highways, bridges, and hydraulic structures.
  • Oversee project execution to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery while collaborating with construction teams to verify design compliance.
  • Conduct and contribute to dam safety inspections, condition assessments, and upgrade projects for concrete and earth dams.
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks associated with geotechnical projects, including natural hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, and floods.
  • Establish and implement quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency in geotechnical analyses and reporting.
  • Prepare proposal and bid documents in response to internal and external requests for proposals.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through technical support, project updates, and contract discussions.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise junior and intermediate engineers, fostering their technical development and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to meet project objectives, schedules, and budgets.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Post-graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 12 years of geotechnical engineering experience, with a proven record of managing complex studies and leading medium- to large-scale projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility for registration with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) within 3 months.
  • Proficiency with geotechnical software for slope stability, settlement, seepage, and finite element analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects independently while collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and client relationship skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey project status and technical information to clients and stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of soil mechanics, foundation design, and construction techniques.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS), MTO guidelines, and municipal design standards.
