The Role

In this position, the Manager, Financial Reporting will be responsible for producing MCAPs key financial reports, will ensure that transactions are adequately accounted for, understand and investigate variances, and ultimately provide thorough analysis on accounting and financial issues to support business operations.

Analysis and Reporting

  • Analyze, report, and monitor financial and business transactions impacting the monthly and quarterly financial results, both on the consolidated level and the LOB.
  • Analyze, volumes/assets and assess reasonability, incl. flux analysis.
  • Monitors, reports and investigates all other monthly and quarterly financial reporting variances.
  • Reviews and approves journal entries, reviews legal entity/standalone financial statements, performs analysis and reviews balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Analyze and prepare detailed accounting analysis on new contracts and complex transactions in accordance with IFRS.
  • Communicates and prepares regular reporting and analysis, including key metrics and reports for upper management; Help in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements and conduct ad hoc financial analysis as required.
  • Research of new accounting developments under IFRS that would have an impact on the business, analyzes and documents the impact, and actively participates in implementation of new standards.
  • Participate in the change management activities through continuous improvement of Financial Processes and accounting system, coaching the team and implementing best practices.

Compliance

  • Maintain strong controls within the financial statement close process
  • Oversees the Finance controls captured within the CFO/CEO Certification process
  • Prepares quarterly bank covenant compliance documents
    Assist with annual broker compliance

Strategic Planning, Analysis and Ad Hoc Tasks

  • Participates in the development of strategic initiatives by providing relevant and requested analyses and forecasts
  • Manages and reports on Key Performance Indicators to be monitored by management
  • Provides financial input to the development of business strategies and in the review of performance
  • Provides support on financial modeling for strategic projects which accords with best practice and identifies risks, issues and assumptions which enables the senior management team to make and implement effective decisions and mitigation strategies

Act as a Link to Managers, Staff, and Stakeholders

  • Be the first point of contact for junior staff to seek aid in problem solving issues encountered in day-to-day accounting
  • Mentor team in best practices, and propose changes to enable greater efficiency in processes and analysis
  • Lead and prepare submission of routine and ad-hoc financial information to regulatory bodies and stakeholders
  • Act as a back-up to support Senior Executive Team

Lead and Manage Staff

  • Champion the company's Vision, Mission and Values as set out in the Strategic Plan both internally and externally within the industry
  • Educate, coach and counsel staff to ensure they are empowered to effectively handle their roles in a confident and professional manner
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the business unit
  • Ensure continuous improvement culture is encouraged and demonstrated

What You Bring To The Team

  • Strong accounting background
  • 3-4 years working knowledge in accounting and financial reporting
  • Self-driven, motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Focus on detail and accuracy with respect to data integrity while working with large volumes of data
  • Ability to analyze financial and investment analyses and understand how to use this information to drive projects that will impact the business.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly proficient in data analysis and excel including ability to simply and automate processes within Excel
  • Ability to interpret and question data inputs to financial models and support alternative recommendations as necessary. Strong strategic thinker and decision-maker, able to develop trust through demonstrated personal integrity, encouraging team to act in best interest of the company and achieve the highest standards
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize operational skills (analytical, curious, tenacious, process improvement, quality, project management, workflow analysis) necessary to achieve established business goals
  • Relationship Management: Develops and maintains effective relationships internally and externally. Includes efforts one takes to be part of a team and work together.

Excellent two-way communication skills both verbal and oral; able to actively listen for understanding and to articulate in clear, concise manner, particularly within the Finance environment
