We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. The ideal Heavy-Duty Mechanic will have a professional attitude, be a self-motivated team player who can mentor and lead our apprentices, and contribute to our culture of inclusion and diversity with ease.

What you will do in this role:

  • Diagnose defects in the fleet and provide service for the company fleet.
  • Provide routine maintenance as well as possible engine overhauls.
  • Check equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults/ malfunctions.
  • Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and any other mechanical components. Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Diagnose any faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair that is required.
  • Inspect, repair, and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered units.
  • Perform incidental welding operations on equipment. (If qualified)
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries on time to the supervisor to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and on road calls when required.
  • Operate automotive servicing equipment.
  • Installation of new and added-on equipment and accurate completion of work orders and time sheets.
  • Repair cooling and lubrication systems, repair mechanical transmissions, drivetrains, and final drives.
  • Repair cable-operated working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, test repaired equipment for proper performance, etc.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other maintenance work, and instruct and assist apprentices.
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
  • Maintain a clean working environment and good housekeeping practices.
  • Work away from home in other AFD branches at times if requested.
  • Other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Adhere to Jas Transport HSE policies and procedures.
  • Some Out-of-hours work may be required for a call out basis.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Perform rebuilds as required.
  • Completing daily job hazard assessments.

What we are looking for:

  • Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience.
  • Valid Class 5 with a clean driving record.
  • Current CVIP certificate would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Cummins engines, hydraulic systems, familiarity with Dump and Super B would be considered an asset.
  • Experience and considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment and other power-driven equipment and tools.
  • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade is important.
  • Skilled in the operation of a variety of tools and equipment used in the repair of trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Capable of preparing and maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to analyze and repair mechanical failures.
  • Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment screening requirements including drug and alcohol and health assessment.
