The Opportunity

RVS invites applications from qualified individuals for a term, full-time (35 hrs/wk) Speech Language Pathologist with the Learning Supports team starting January 5, 2026 until January 4, 2027.

This position requires Early Childhood experience.

Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) provide consultation, screening, specialized assessment, intervention, and equipment (speech generating devices) for students experiencing communication challenges that significantly impact their ability to access the school curriculum.

The successful candidate will have a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operators License and access to a reliable vehicle as travel is required. Mileage reimbursement will be provided in accordance with established RVS procedures.

Responsibilities Include

  • Ensures the early identification of speech and language needs of children in kindergarten

  • Conducts screenings using informal speech and language measures and interprets and communicates the results to school staff and families

  • Coordinates test results with other diagnostic data, such as education, medical, occupational therapy, social and behavioural information

  • Consults and collaborates with parents and RVS staff to develop appropriate follow-up recommendations for programming

  • Provides documentation for the purpose of identifying children eligible for funding

  • Initiates referrals to other agencies and programs as necessary and supporting children, families, and schools at transition points

  • Identifies needs of young children within the context of their school or home environment

  • Prepares written assessment reports for the child's confidential file and for relevant community professionals per family requests

  • Promotes improved communication competence for at risk children through program planning with teachers and families and through classroom-based intervention activities

  • Works with the RVS Early Intervention Team to develop comprehensive services for children with exceptional needs

  • Assists in the development, evaluation, and revision of student's Individual Program Plans in consultation and collaboration with families, teachers, and other instructional staff

  • Provides teachers with inclusive classroom-based supports

  • Provides resource material to support and facilitate educational programming

  • Provides in-service for school staff and families to build Speech Language capacity

  • Maintains contact with community agencies and partnerships to develop a coordinated program of service and to assist schools and families in accessing appropriate resources

Education/Experience

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology

  • Current registration, in good standing, with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists including a valid permit to practice

  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with children with speech and language delays/disorders

  • Previous experience within a school division and/or with Student Information Records Systems is considered an asset

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong assessment and problem-solving skills to identify and address developmental and educational delays related to speech language challenges

  • Expertise in identifying, diagnosing, and planning speech language interventions for children/students experiencing communication challenges

  • Proven ability to establish a rapport with children/youth, families, and other professional staff

  • Ability to successfully work in a multi-disciplinary team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision

  • Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients

  • Knowledge of records management principles including Privacy Legislation

  • Strong consultation, coaching, and facilitation skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate and convey highly technical/medical information to parents/guardians and staff

  • Strong presentation and instructional skills with the ability to present to a wide range of stakeholders

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
