Greater Toronto Area ON, Canada Toronto Newcomer Support Services Full time

Seeking a physical education teacher who will use sports, recreation and physical education as a medium to help recently arrived refugee children and youth make friends, practice English and settle into their new school.

This is a temporary position, not a permanent position. Applicant must be available for work Monday – Friday between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Pay rate starts at $25.85/hr. After completion of 30 days of work, the pay rate increases to $34.47/hr.

Summary of Duties:

  • Use sports as a medium for fostering friendships, teamwork and respect between newcomer children/youth and their Canadian peers
  • Creatively engage young children and youth in health and fitness activities (6 years of age – 24 years of age)
  • Creating and facilitating group activities for children, youth and families in schools across the GTA (Scarborough, Central Toronto, Etobicoke)
  • Effectively supervise and engage children and youth who have little to no English
  • Create effective lesson plans that cater to various learning styles
  • Interact and engage with students of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Arrange guest speaker appearances and organize field trips
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports and enter statistics into program reporting applications
  • Adhere to privacy and confidentiality requirements
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Ability to speak another language in addition to English an asset
  • Access to a car and willing to drive across the GTA (Etobicoke, Scarborough, North York, Central Toronto)
  • Extensively knowledge in sports, recreation and health and wellness for children and youth
  • Experience independently instructing and supervising up to 25 children or youth
  • Experience working with newly arrived immigrants of various educational and cultural backgrounds
  • Experience facilitating activities and tournaments
  • Strong knowledge of community resources, supports, and program services for newcomers
  • Strong organizational skills and communications skill
  • Strong skills in establishing behaviour guidelines
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.85-$34.47 per hour
