About Us
Chef Jasper is a Canadian company in commercial kitchen automation backed by international venture capital and the government. Our vision is to make good food more accessible. We develop and operate intelligent robotic kitchens for food service. In 2024, we launched the first robotic kitchen in a long-term care facility globally and have since served hundreds of thousands of meals to seniors. Our technology spans the entire food service process and helps homes save time, reduce food waste, and improve residents' life quality.
The Role
Chef Jasper is building the future of food robotics — and we're looking for a seasoned Senior Mechanical Engineer to bring bold ideas to life. As a senior member of the hardware team, you'll play a key role in shaping and scaling Chef Jasper's robotic kitchens. You'll design elegant, practical mechanical solutions that bridge client needs, manufacturability, and the realities of large-scale production. This is a chance to work at the intersection of cutting-edge automation, mechanical design, and real-world problem solving.
- Contribute to the mechanical design of the robotic kitchen — from concept through deployment
- Translate customer and operational feedback into refined mechanical solutions
- Design, simulate, and test actuators, mechanisms, and mechanical subsystems
- Lead engineering analysis (FEM, stress, and failure analysis) to inform scalable design decisions
- Prepare manufacturing-ready files and documentation for CNC machining and other production processes
- Optimize designs for reliability, manufacturability, and cost efficiency
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, software developers, and product leaders to deliver integrated systems
Requirements
You're a builder and problem-solver who loves turning ideas into physical systems. You understand what it takes to bring a complex electromechanical product from concept to production — and you're excited to apply that skill to robotics that make a real impact in people's lives.
Must-Haves
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development
- Proven track record of taking end-to-end systems from concept through production
- Advanced CAD expertise (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, sheet metal, and plastics
- Experience preparing CNC-ready design files and drawings (exposure to machining workflows — not hands-on CNC operation)
- Proficiency in FEM, tolerance analysis, and mechanical simulation
- Experience with electromechanical systems, actuators, and mechanism design
- Strong documentation and BOM management skills
- A collaborative mindset and the adaptability to thrive in a fast-moving startup environment
- Based in Montréal, QC or willingness to relocate.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in robotics, automation systems, or electromechanical assemblies
- Background in food service, food production, or industrial equipment
- Previous startup or scale-up experience (building from scratch, wearing many hats)
Compensation
Competitive annual salary & equity commensurate with experience, as well as group benefits plan.
