Position Summary
The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of mechanical projects at the PCLI site. This role provides end-to-end project leadership, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with site standards and regulatory requirements.
The Mechanical Project Manager acts as the primary liaison between CAM, stakeholders, engineering, maintenance, construction, and subcontractors. This position requires strong field presence, sound mechanical judgment, and the ability to manage multiple work fronts in an operating refinery environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead mechanical projects from scope development through execution, commissioning, and close-out.
- Manage project scope, schedule, cost, quality, and safety performance.
- Ensure alignment with site standards, procedures, and expectations.
- Serve as CAM's primary mechanical point of contact with HollyFrontier project and maintenance teams.
Planning & Coordination
- Collaborate with engineering, planners, and construction teams to develop detailed execution plans.
- Review and validate mechanical scopes, drawings, material take-offs, and work packages.
- Coordinate work sequencing to support refinery operations and outage/turnaround activities as required.
- Participate in job walks, constructability reviews, and pre-job planning sessions.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion CAM's Zero Harm culture and ensure strict adherence to site HSE requirements.
- Ensure mechanical work complies with applicable codes and standards (ASME, API, NBIC, CSA, etc.).
- Participate in hazard assessments, pre-task planning, and safety walkdowns.
- Address safety concerns promptly and take corrective action when required.
Cost & Schedule Control
- Track project budgets, forecasts, and cost performance.
- Review change requests and develop cost and schedule impacts.
- Support estimating and pricing of field-directed work and change orders.
- Monitor productivity and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
Contractor & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate and oversee subcontractors, vendors, and specialty service providers.
- Ensure contractors meet CAM safety, quality, and performance expectations.
- Facilitate effective communication between CAM, client representatives, and site teams.
Reporting & Documentation
- Provide regular project status updates, schedules, and cost reports.
- Ensure accurate documentation, including RFIs, change orders, progress tracking, and close-out packages.
- Support lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
- 7+ years of experience managing mechanical projects in refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, piping, pressure equipment, and rotating equipment.
- Proven experience working in operating refinery sites with owner-client interfaces (HF Sinclair experience considered a strong asset).
- Demonstrated ability to manage safety, schedule, cost, and quality concurrently.
- Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders in fast-paced, high-risk environments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in project controls, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to spend significant time in the field and support site-based execution.
Working Conditions
- Site-based role at the PCLI refinery.
- Frequent field presence in active industrial environments.
- Must be able to navigate construction areas and wear required PPE.
- May require extended hours or schedule flexibility to support site needs.
