We're looking for a detail-oriented and service-focused Payroll Administrator to join our People Team. If you love keeping systems clean and making sure every pay cycle runs smoothly, this is your role.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their Payroll career who wants to grow in  payroll operations, benefits administration, compliance, and core People Team processes in a fast-moving AI company.

Payroll Support:
  • Prepare and manage payroll for AltaML and our other Ventures.
  • Validate hours, deductions, commissions, and other pay elements each cycle.
  • Maintain accurate records across Canadian and U.S. payrolls.
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations and support Finance with basic reporting.
Benefits Administration:
  • Support benefits enrolments, changes, and terminations (HSA, GRSP, etc.).
  • Keep benefits data accurate and aligned across HRIS, payroll, and provider systems.
  • Help team members navigate their benefits and respond to questions with clarity.
  • Assist with benefits renewals and help prepare communications.
People Team Operations:
  • Support onboarding tasks related to payroll and benefits setup.
  • Maintain clean, audit-ready documentation and digital records.
  • Help document and improve People Team workflows and SOPs.
  • Participate in process improvement projects as we scale across Canada and the U.S.
Organizational Support:
  • Support with Mitacs program in partnership with Talent team
  • Assist with LMIS reporting
  • Respond to payroll and benefits inquiries with accuracy, confidentiality, and care.
  • Escalate more complex situations to senior team members or vendors when needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in payroll or a related field
  • Have or are working towards the Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation
  • Experience supporting payroll across multiple entitiesBenefits administration experience
  • Exposure to U.S. payroll administration 
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS and accounting systems
  • A strong eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Comfort working with numbers, spreadsheets, and HR/payroll systems (we use ADP and QuickBooks).
  • A customer-service mindset and the ability to communicate clearly
  • Curiosity, reliability, and a desire to learn and grow

Responsible AI (RAI)
