Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced AWS Architect with strong Payments domain expertise to design, build, and evolve secure, scalable, and highly available cloud architectures supporting payment processing systems. The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on AWS experience, a strong understanding of payment flows, compliance requirements, and the ability to translate business and regulatory needs into robust cloud-native solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design and architect secure, highly available, and scalable AWS solutions for payment processing platforms, including authorization, settlement, reconciliation, and reporting systems.

Lead cloud architecture decisions for high-throughput, low-latency payment systems, ensuring fault tolerance and resilience.

Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as AWS CDK, CloudFormation, and/or Terraform.

Architect and support PCI-DSS compliant environments, ensuring adherence to security, audit, and regulatory standards.

Design secure networking architectures using VPCs, security groups, NACLs, private connectivity, and IAM.

Implement and oversee CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments using AWS-native and third-party tools.

Partner closely with application development, security, compliance, and operations teams to align architecture with business and regulatory requirements.

Review and optimize architectures for performance, cost, reliability, and security.

Guide teams on AWS best practices, cloud governance, and operational excellence.

Support incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives in production environments.

Stay current with evolving AWS services, payment technologies, and industry compliance standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

8+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud engineering, or infrastructure architecture.

5+ years of hands-on AWS architecture experience in production environments.

Strong experience designing and operating payment systems or financial transaction platforms.

Deep knowledge of AWS services, including:

EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudWatch, CloudTrail

Proven expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.

Strong understanding of security best practices, including IAM, encryption, key management (KMS), network isolation, and secrets management.

Experience with high availability, disaster recovery, and fault-tolerant architectures.

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).

Experience working in Agile / DevOps environments.

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Payment Domain Experience (Must Have)

Experience working with payment processing systems, such as:

Card payments, ACH, EFT, wire transfers, or real-time payments

Strong understanding of:

Payment authorization and settlement flows

Transaction lifecycle management

Reconciliation and reporting

Experience supporting or designing PCI-DSS compliant systems

Familiarity with fraud prevention, risk controls, and audit requirements is a strong plus

Preferred Qualifications

AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or Security Specialty)

Experience with containerized workloads (Docker, ECS, EKS, Kubernetes)

Experience with serverless architectures using AWS Lambda

Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)

Background in banking, fintech, or payment service providers

Experience supporting large-scale, customer-facing financial platforms
