35 hours per week (a 4-day work week may be considered, if preferred)
Salar
y:
$70,000 - $78,000 annually commensurate with experience
Benefits:
Four weeks vacation + four bonus days off as part of annual office closure; Comprehensive health and dental benefits; $25/month phone stipend; flexible and friendly work environment.

About the Role
The Director of Communications and Events is responsible for shaping the public voice of one of BC's most established sustainable transportation organizations, BEST Mobility (
Better Environmentally Sound Transportation
). The Director will bring their commitment to sustainable transportation and translate that into campaigns and events that both expand the impact of BEST's programs, and influence public policy. The role blends creativity with strategy, staff leadership and hands-on execution. The Director of Communications and Events will report to the Executive Director and be a part of a small, high-performing team at a critical time for sustainable transportation.
Key Responsibilities
Communications
- Develop and implement a cohesive marketing and communications strategy.
- Oversee and evolve BEST's brand identity across all programs and initiatives, ensuring consistency in tone, visuals and messaging.
- Oversee monthly e-newsletters and social media platforms.
- Develop engaging communications campaigns to promote sustainable transportation.
- Ensure all communications reflect BEST's commitment to equity, sustainability and collaboration.
Events
- Work with the staff team to ensure the successful planning and execution of BEST events, including WALK30, Walktober, and The Bike Valet.
- Identify and pursue sponsorship opportunities, including preparing sponsorship packages and conducting outreach.
- Build cross-program collaboration so events reinforce organizational and advocacy goals.
- Identify opportunities to collaborate with aligned organizations and community groups on events.
Media
- Draft and distribute media releases.
- Write op-eds, blogs or other articles related to sustainable transportation.
- Serve as a key spokesperson for BEST.
- Maintain an active list of media contacts.
Fundraising
- Oversee donor appeals and fundraising campaigns, sharing compelling stories that demonstrate impact and deepen donor engagement.
Employee and Volunteer Management
- Directly supervise staff, providing coaching, feedback and goal-setting.
- Foster a creative, collaborative, and inclusive team culture.
- Work closely with volunteers across events and programs, ensuring they feel valued, supported, and engaged.
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years' experience in communications and events, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and lead teams toward high performance.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to a broad range of audiences.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and commonly used communications tools.
- Proficiency in graphic design and visual communications, including experience with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent.
- Experience with email marketing platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to secure funding through donation campaigns or sponsorships.
- Passion for active transportation, transit and carsharing.
