Swim Instructor/Lifeguard – Spring/SummerCommunity Services department
(part-time and full-time hours, 24 to 35 hours per week)
Position description
The Town of Orangeville's Community Services Department is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Swim Instructor/Lifeguards. The Town has multiple positions available for spring and summer hours. Spring hours will be up to twenty-four (24) hours commencing April 2026. Summer hours will be up to thirty-five (35) hours per week commencing April 2026 and ending August 2026. Hours of work will be depending on operational needs.
Job duties- Instructing aquatic programs and performing lifeguard services; enforcing pool facility policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
- Maintaining records pertaining to lesson plans and report cards; ensuring the pool deck area is safe for all users and that emergency first aid equipment is in its place.
- Maintaining the deck, pool equipment and change rooms; installing buoy lines and other equipment as required.
- Ensuring equipment is available when lifeguarding; participating in staff training.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Some secondary school education
- Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (Pool option)
- Current Lifesaving Swim Instructors
- Current Standard First Aid / CPR C or equivalent, from an accredited organization
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years of age
- Lifesaving Society Instructor is considered an asset.
- Lifesaving Society Examiner at Bronze Cross level or higher is considered an asset.
- Lifesaving Emergency First Aid Instructor is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Aquatic provincial legislation and health and safety legislation.
Hourly Range: $19.64 to $22.97, Band 2 on the Town's 2025 Pay Grid
Please note:
- In-water assessments will be a requirement for this position.
- Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, including either a vulnerable sector check or a criminal record and judicial matters check, as permitted under Ontario's Police Record Checks Reform Act, and in accordance with the duties of the position.
