Our client is seeking a motivated and experienced professional to lead their Water Resources team in Edmonton. This role offers the chance to advance your career by managing a skilled team of hydrogeologists, environmental engineers, and scientists.

Qualifications, Education & Experience
The ideal candidate will be a technically strong hydrogeologist with excellent communication and leadership abilities, holding the following credentials:

  • Bachelor's degree in hydrogeology, geology, geological engineering, or environmental science (Master's degree preferred).
  • Professional Geologist (P.Geo.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation required, or eligibility for registration.
  • Minimum 8 years of hydrogeology experience, preferably with exposure to oil & gas, mining, and/or municipal water projects.
  • Proficient in hydrogeological field methods such as aquifer testing, well installations, geophysics, and water quality sampling.
  • Experience planning and managing complex hydrogeological field programs including drilling, sampling, and monitoring coordination.
  • Expertise in complex hydrogeological assessments involving source-pathway-receptor evaluations.
  • Thorough knowledge of groundwater legislation relevant to Western Canada.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team settings.
  • Proven experience in human resources management.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada without restrictions.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Alberta or British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership

  • Provide expert technical guidance on hydrogeological assessments, water supply development, and contaminant hydrogeology projects.
  • Specialized knowledge in industry-specific groundwater challenges such as mine dewatering, tailings seepage, SAGD water management, and municipal water sustainability is advantageous.
  • Support regulatory compliance including water licensing, EPEA, and thermal groundwater assessments.
  • Experience with hydrogeochemistry and groundwater-surface water interaction is a plus.
  • Training or certification in groundwater modeling tools (MODFLOW, FEFLOW) is beneficial but not mandatory.

Project & Client Management

  • Oversee multiple hydrogeology projects from start to finish, ensuring they are delivered on schedule and within budget.
  • Serve as the main contact for key clients, building strong relationships and ensuring client satisfaction.
  • May lead proposal development and technical report writing for major projects.
  • Navigate regulatory frameworks such as the Alberta Water Act, BC Water Sustainability Act, Alberta Guide to Groundwater Authorization, AER Directives, and municipal permits.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Manage, mentor, and develop hydrogeologists, groundwater scientists, and technical staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, support career development, and encourage ongoing training.
  • Promote a collaborative, high-performance team culture focused on knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Encourage cross-sector learning related to mining, oil & gas, and municipal groundwater projects.

Business Development & Growth

  • Identify new market opportunities and contribute to strategic growth initiatives in hydrogeology and water resources.
  • Support business development efforts by building relationships with clients, regulators, and industry partners.
  • Lead preparation of technical proposals, budgets, and work plans to win new projects.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with other disciplines (GIS, environmental science, development) to create integrated client solutions.
  • Represent the company at industry events and stakeholder meetings as a subject matter expert.
  • Collaborate with diverse clients including hydrogeologists, mining and reservoir engineers, environmental coordinators, municipal water planners, urban developers, and business leaders.
