JOB TITLE
~ ACTIVITIES ASSISTANT: Under the direction of the Activities Coordinator. All of the Activities team function as a support to the Activities Coordinator who is the only Supervisor.
~ ROLE: To prepare & roll out events & wellness programs for seniors (ages yrs).
AVAILABILITY
~ There would be a blend of permanent weekday shifts and some varied to meet the needs of events.
~One Saturday afternoon monthly.
~Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and some other statutory holidays are a must.
~Other shifts according to the needs of events.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
~Must live within a 20 minute commute from Avalon Gardens.
~Able to maintain the confidentiality & security of the residents, families, issues, and facility affairs & property.
~ Ability to lead group events (e.g. craft & art classes, make announcements, etc).
~ Positive, discerning PEOPLE SKILLS, relationship-building desire, professional diplomacy.
~A flare for SEASONAL DECOR creativity, organizational abilities, and over-the-top exceptional computer graphic experience.
~ A fun-filled nature able to value residents' requests and communicate them with your Supervisor for direction.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Supporting the Activities Coordinator with a variety of recreational activities for residents, such as games, crafts, music, and outings.
- Encourage resident participation in activities and promote social interaction
- Assist with setting up and cleaning activity areas
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a positive and stimulating environment for residents
QUALIFICATIONS
Art, Craft, & Music abilities: Previous experience with art to provide confident instruction to residents.
Caregiving: Previous experience working with seniors or individuals requiring assistance is preferred.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and staff members
- Senior Care Knowledge: Familiarity with the unique needs and challenges of seniors as their health declines overtime. Understanding of the services provided in an assisted living facility and the importance of promoting independence and dignity for residents.
- Dementia Care: Knowledge of dementia care techniques and strategies to engage individuals with cognitive impairments an asset.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
~ Plan, prepare, advertise, lead or supervisor, clean up, follow up on quality of all Avalon Activities
o Including reoccurring weekly; exercise classes and games
o DrumFIT, chair yoga
o Monthly birthday celebrations
o 100's Birthday Celebrations
o Movie nights, televised sport events
o Weekly Bus trips
o A variety of different crafts
o A variety of different and activities and games.
o Sing along, bocce tournaments, scrabble tournaments, trivia games, Pictionary, you be the Judge. Monthly Monday Mixers, cider making, soap making etc.
o Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, New Year' Day, Valentines Day, St. Patrick, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Canada Day, Robbie Burns Day, National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, Chinese New Year, Remembrance Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas, New Years Eve
o Fall & Spring Craft Fair Event
- Help plan & execute staff events.

o Ability to vary hours of work to carry out duties of the Activity role, including weekends & evenings.
o Experience with seniors (80 years plus) to understand their unique needs.

o Ability to maintain internal confidentiality while demonstrating tact, empathy, and patience to maintain harmonious relationships with residents.
REQUIREMENTS:
o Consent for a Criminal Record Check (CRC) for working with Vulnerable Adults
o Tuberculosis Screening Test (paid by employer)
o Food Safe, Serving It Right required. WHMIS Certificates is an asset.
o Current certification in Emergency First Aid – Level 1 OFA
o Our community is located in the heart of Murrayville There is no need for seniors to cross a street for a doctor, pharmacy, restaurant, bank, groceries, salon, vet, etc.
