The Position

Under the general supervision of the Health Manager, the Medical Transportation Coordinator (MTC) is responsible for managing and facilitating transportation services for community members, ensuring they receive timely and safe access to medical care and appointments. The MTC ensures passengers/clients travel in a safe vehicle and provides access to other social supports within and outside of the community.

The Candidate:

  • Provide transportation only to clients who have been approved to be transported to and from appointments. Keep, update and submit a daily log to the supervisor.
  • Record the odometer reading from start to finish of the route.
  • Maintain a record of concerns/incidents regarding any problems encountered during the transportation of client(s) and notify the Supervisor.
  • Work with the Fleet Coordinator to plan and schedule vehicle maintenance. Notify supervisor and fleet coordinator of any vehicle needs and/or repairs immediately,
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the vehicle as needed; sanitize the vehicle as needed after each trip; ensure adequate supplies are available.
  • Ensure that licenses, registration and insurance are in the vehicle for each trip.
  • Observe all rules of the road, including speed limits and safety regulations.
  • Assist the elderly and disabled clients to and from the vehicle.
  • Maintain Medical Transportation calendar with vehicle, client and driver information and share with Health Benefits Coordinator. Contact clients to confirm appointments and transportation needs.
  • Identify and contact an on-call driver when needed to assist with transportation demands.
  • Ensure vehicles are fueled and clean every day.
  • Perform all other duties within the scope of the position and as requested.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
  • Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of driving experience.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License, a clean Driver's Abstract, and a reliable vehicle.
  • Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector search.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple schedules and coordinate various transportation options effectively.
  • Certification or training in Reception, Office Administration, Business Administration, etc., is an asset.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and E-requester.
  • Strong knowledge of internal & external health programs and services.
  • Ability to respond positively during interactions and always maintain a calm, professional manner
  • Knowledge of the community and city is required.
  • Training in Time & Stress Management, Assertiveness, Conflict Resolution, and Trauma-Informed Care is an asset. A First Aid Certificate is required.
  • Be able to lift 40 lbs. when necessary. Evening and weekend work may be required.
