Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Equipment Maintenance Associate plays a critical role in ensuring all rental equipment and tools are clean, safe, and ready for customer use. This position involves routine upkeep (fueling, cleaning, light servicing) , customer support, and assisting with shop operations while maintaining the highest standards for safety and service.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Equipment Maintenance Associate, you will be responsible for a blend of shop maintenance, inventory management, and customer-facing duties:

  • Perform basic routine maintenance and cleaning of heavy/light equipment, small air tools, and electric tools
  • Conduct checks on fluid levels (fuel, oil, water), perform oil changes, basic spark plug replacements, and filter changes. Sharpen saw blades and perform minor tool maintenance.
  • Pressure wash and clean large rental items (e.g., rollers, compactors) and tag equipment as ready for rental after full inspection and servicing, recording and monitoring hour meters on equipment.
  • Test and inspect equipment for damage and functionality before and after rentals, maintaining records of services performed and parts used. Report and record any damages or malfunctions for review by management or mechanics.
  • Ensure work areas, the warehouse, and the yard are kept clean, safe, and organized.
  • Properly wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Operate walk-behind and ride-on forklifts to safely move tow-behind equipment (compressors, light towers, generators).
  • Greet customers, assess their needs, and recommend appropriate tools and equipment for their projects.
  • Assist customers and drivers with loading and unloading equipment and provide basic instructions on equipment operation.
  • Prepare rental agreements and process payments using the Point of Rental system and assist with the delivery of small equipment to customers, as required.
  • Deliver excellent customer service in person, by phone, and via email.

  • Familiarity with construction, landscaping and other equipment.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and the ability to perform equipment upkeep (fueling, cleaning, sharpening).
  • Strong customer service mindset – reliable, professional, courteous, and solution-focused.
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills with attention to detail, accurate recordkeeping skills and team-first mindset.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new skills in equipment maintenance, rental, and sales.
  • Post -secondary education, apprenticeship or experience with mechanical maintenance; experience in an equipment/tool rental or sales environment; or experience using Point of Rental software are considered an asset.
  • Ability to lift 50-80lbs, and work in varying conditions (indoor shop/showroom and outdoor, exposed to noise, dust, and weather).
  • Valid G license with a clean driving abstract.
  • Willingness to work overtime, as required.
