We serve clients in the multi-residential, commercial, and industrial sectors to bring the financial resources and technical expertise needed to deliver energy and net-zero projects in their buildings. Opportunity
: You will play a dual role in developing client business cases for project investment while also assessing the credit of new clients and deal opportunities. You will support the business development team in developing their client relationships and their projects, with a focus on deal documentation, credit analysis, reporting and due diligence. This role requires a high-EQ leader who sees the firm's growth as their own, blending financial and technical underwriting with the operational agility to move projects to investment approval and legal close.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Development - Investment and Credit (Approximately 70% of time)
- Drive transactions through the internal evaluation and approval process, ensuring all due diligence requirements are met to facilitate investment approval.
- Perform detailed credit analysis and evaluate the financial viability and risk of investments.
- Author Investment Committee submission reports that evaluate client credit and project investment worthiness by synthesizing credit assessment, project economics, market dynamics, and risks and mitigants.
- Lead the Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) workflows to ensure all project sponsors meet institutional investment standards.
- Proactively structure deal terms, such as security deposits, guarantees, or insurance, to mitigate risk and move borderline credit profiles toward approval.
- Support relationship managers in managing the execution of legal contracts and supporting documentation for financial close.
- Maintain the firm's Source of Truth by managing the documentation systems and processes.
- Periodically review the credit standing of the existing portfolio to identify early warning signs of default and ensure continued capital efficiency.
Business Development Support (Approximately 30% of time)
- Work in concert with relationship managers to drive projects through all stages of origination, development, investment approval, and project delivery.
- Conduct initial opportunity screenings and provide briefings to relationship managers to facilitate rapid go/no-go decisions.
- Support deal development by providing relevant information and analysis while coordinating with external client teams, engineers, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Support proposal development and writing to prepare client-ready documents, including presentations and marketing materials.
- Utilize and manage CRM activities, including data entry, lead tracking, and overall maintenance of the client relationship management database.
- Support the firm's broader success by organizing key meetings and planning staff initiatives, demonstrating a no task too small mindset to meet organizational targets.
Qualifications & Characteristics
Experience & Education
- 5+ years of relevant experience in projects and deal development, and credit assessment.
- Experience in infrastructure, green building, energy, or real estate is a strong asset.
- Formal qualifications in business, finance, or law, with experience in financial and business case analysis.
Skills & Competencies
- Highly organized & detail oriented while juggling multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced role.
- Financial acumen and strong ability to build and interpret dynamic financial models (Excel), and a good understanding of project economics, accounting topics and tax structures.
- Proactive communicator to ensure tasks and timelines while working collaboratively effectively across internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in PowerPoint with ability to translate complex data into visually compelling narratives.
- Excels in solving non-linear problems with a combination of research, inquiry and analysis.
- Fluency in French is an asset.
