Greenhouse Worker

POSITION: Seasonal Greenhouse Laborer

• One position avail. to work 2 days/week

• Approx. 16hrs/week

• Approx. 9am to 5pm shift

Nature of Work:

Work will be in a greenhouse setting where team members will plant, cultivate, maintain and serve customers interested in horticulture and gardening.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Preparing soil and dispensing it into containers selected for the appropriate plants

• Assisting in treating transplants with bio fungicides and biologicals

• Seeding and transplanting

• Watering and maintaining

• Basic scouting of plants for issues that may occur due to pests/diseases/environment

• Distribute biologicals as directed

• Spacing and moving to give adequate space to crop

• Restocking plants into retail areas

• Keeping greenhouses neat and clean (work areas and retail areas)

• Signage duties throughout greenhouses

• Learn and provide information to customers on gardening and the care of plants

• Assisting customers with locating plants

• Assisting customers with lifting heavy items purchased

• Receive payment transactions from customers

Requirements:

• Physical Stamina-Working long hours of standing/walking with frequent tasks that involve bending over to maintain plants. There will be many duties that will involve lifting heavy trays/pots, lifting containers/baskets as well as lifting soil bales that weigh about 80-100lbs.

• Environmental Conditions -Even though the work takes place in a building there can be extreme differences in environmental conditions in Alberta. The ability to withstand wind, rain, snow, humidity, heat and cold is a necessity. Candidate must be aware that they need to be able to sustain time and energy in an environment that can be very warm(+30C) at times for extended periods.

• Customer Service-There are many interactions with customers on a daily basis. Providing advice or answering questions about the business and products should be given in a friendly professional manner.

• Attention to Detail-This role requires a high level of attention to detail to identify when plants are ready to plant, water, maintain, or in need of special care. Scouting of potential diseases and pests will be done on a regular basis.

• Good Communication-Must be able to work in a team environment as well as in independent tasks when assigned.

Assets:

• Experience working in a greenhouse environment

• Customer service skills

• Botanical knowledge or a familiarity with plants and have a basic understanding of plant care

• Looking for energetic individuals who are reliable and dependable

• Have knowledge of POS Square System
