Duties

Join Maritime Forces Atlantic (MARLANT), one of the largest and most dynamic organizations in the region and play a critical role in the health, safety and well being of the Defence Team. We are seeking dedicated team members to support our operations in a fast-paced maritime and industrial environment, where safety is a top-priority. In these roles, you will promote compliance with workplace health and safety regulations, conduct inspections, complete risk assessments and investigate safety occurrences. Additional responsibilities include developing, implementing, and updating policies, procedures and training programs, providing advice and guidance to managers and employees on safety best practices, and supporting a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization. Intent of the process

We are currently seeking candidates for a position located in Halifax, NS. Additional opportunities may arise in the future, and this process may be used to staff anticipatory positions in Halifax as they become available.

EDUCATION

ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or a certificate or diploma from a post-secondary institution combined with a minimum of 3 years of safety work experience in an industrial or maritime environment.

Experience
EX1. Experience in the planning and delivery of occupational health and safety programs and projects inclusive of developing guidance and engaging stakeholders.

EX2. Experience conducting inspections or assessments or audits of occupational health and safety programs and drafting the associated reports.

EX3. Experience conducting or analyzing accident investigations and inquiries in an industrial or maritime environment and making recommendations.

EX4. Experience in the development or delivery of training or seminar sessions.

Asset Experience
AEX1. Experience working with an ISO 45001/CSA Z1000 safety management system.

AEX2. Experience working in a safety auditor position.

AEX3. Experience in providing recommendations to senior management on one or more safety areas (e.g., occupational health, prevention of violence, safe work, fall protection, confined space entry, lock-out tag-out, hazardous occurrence investigation, ergonomics, etc.).

AEX4. Experience in preparing and managing safety contracts.

AEX5. Experience working as a project manager and working with principles such as scope, proposals, budget control and schedule.

• Required to work in extreme weather conditions, wear personal protective equipment, work at heights and in confined spaces, be exposed to occupational health and safety hazards when participating in investigations, inspections, and verifications and responding to emergency situations.
