Maintenance Worker
Reports To: Property Owner/Manager
Location: Victoria, BC
Compensation: $85,000 – $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Maintenance Worker to support a private family office that manages multiple residences for the principal. This is a hands-on role requiring expertise in mechanical repairs, general maintenance, and project coordination. The ideal candidate will be a jack-of-all-trades, able to adapt to a wide variety of tasks including farm equipment maintenance, home repairs, and managing construction projects. The role requires the ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed. A high level of emotional intelligence (EQ) is essential for working in a dynamic, high-expectation environment. Additionally, the candidate should be proficient in creating presentations to effectively communicate project updates and proposals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on farm equipment, vehicles, and small machinery.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues around the farm and private residences.
- Assist with construction projects including renovations, home repairs, and building new structures.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors for specialized construction and maintenance work.
- Maintain landscaping and property grounds, including fencing, irrigation systems, and general upkeep.
- Handle carpentry, painting, roofing, and general handyman work as needed.
- Operate heavy machinery such as tractors, loaders, and skid steers when necessary.
- Ensure all tools, equipment, and machinery are properly maintained and stored.
- Respond to urgent repair needs and unforeseen maintenance issues as they arise.
- Support seasonal farm duties and general operational tasks.
- Travel to various domestic and international residences to oversee maintenance and project coordination.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to provide project updates, maintenance plans, and recommendations to the principal and family office staff.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Proven experience in mechanical repairs, general maintenance, construction, or related fields.
- Ability to operate and maintain farm equipment, small engines, and vehicles.
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Strong carpentry and general handyman skills.
- Experience coordinating construction or renovation projects is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing priorities.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- High level of emotional intelligence (EQ) to navigate complex relationships and high-expectation environments.
- Ability to prepare and present clear, professional presentations to stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license; CDL or equipment operation certification is a plus.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects, perform manual labor, and operate tools/equipment safely.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Prior experience working on farms, private estates, or construction projects.
- Knowledge of property management and groundskeeping.
- Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
- Experience working within a private family office setting.
- Previous international work or travel experience.
