Role Overview

We're hiring a Senior Full‑Stack Engineer (Ruby on Rails) to build and own features end‑to‑end across our Rails and React stack. You'll collaborate with your team to shape pragmatic designs, deliver high‑quality code, and improve the reliability and performance of a platform processing $200M+ annually. You prefer simple, maintainable solutions; you're comfortable debugging across the stack; and you communicate clearly with product and non‑technical stakeholders. You'll be hands‑on: scoping, building, testing, instrumenting, and shipping.

Our stack: Ruby on Rails hosted on AWS; React Front‑end, Terraform for IaC; CircleCI for CI/CD; Docker on ECS; and Amazon Aurora for DB.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and ship end‑to‑end features across Rails APIs, React, and background jobs.
  • Contribute to system design and architectural discussions; align work with our modular‑monolith approach (service extraction when justified).
  • Own API endpoints for the features you build: consistent conventions, pagination, and backward compatibility.
  • Model relational data; write safe/online migrations; add indexes; investigate slow queries.
  • Write maintainable unit and integration tests with useful coverage.
  • Raise engineering standards via thoughtful PR reviews, pairing, and improvements to linting/static analysis (ex: RuboCop) and CI gates.
  • Instrument features with metrics, structured logs, and traces; set actionable alerts and keep runbooks concise and current.
  • Troubleshoot production issues across the stack with a focus on reliability and user impact.
  • Partner with Product and Design to break down work, estimate, and deliver iteratively; validate solutions with data and user feedback.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails.
  • Strong SQL and relational data modeling skills; comfortable with query optimization and safe/online migrations.
  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs (versioning, pagination, rate limiting, etc.).
  • Proven experience building modern front-ends (hooks, component patterns, state management) with hands-on expertise in at least one major JavaScript framework such as React or Angular.
  • Familiarity with AWS and modern delivery practices (Docker/ECS, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code with Terraform).
  • Demonstrated ability to debug across browser, API, background jobs, and database layers; bias toward simple, maintainable solutions.
  • Clear communicator who can frame trade‑offs, write concise design notes, and collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Experience with observability and production ops (metrics, logs, tracing, alerts, runbooks).
Bonus Points
  • Experience in payments, parking tech, or other high‑throughput transactional domains.
  • Exposure to cross‑platform mobile development (e.g., React Native) or micro front‑ends.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $130,000 - $160,000 CAD
