Position Summary

The Structural Steel Welder / Ironworker is responsible for performing high-quality welding using primarily 7018 electrodes, along with supporting ironworking tasks on commercial, industrial, and structural steel projects. This role involves layout, fit-up, welding, rigging, bolting, and assisting with steel erection while maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesWelding (Primary Role)

  • Perform SMAW (stick) welding using 7018 electrodes on structural steel components.
  • Complete welds in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) as required.
  • Fit, tack, and weld beams, columns, braces, embeds, and miscellaneous metals.
  • Check weld quality using visual inspection techniques and follow company QA/QC standards.
  • Read and interpret welding symbols, drawings, and engineered details.
  • Ensure all welds meet project, code, and safety requirements.

Ironworking Duties (Secondary Support Role)

  • Assist with the erection of structural steel including hoisting, rigging, and connecting.
  • Install and torque bolts to spec; operate impact tools and erection equipment.
  • Perform layout, measuring, leveling, and alignment of steel members.
  • Work at heights using proper fall protection and follow all site safety procedures.
  • Operate lifts, telehandlers, scissor lifts, and other site equipment (with certification).

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety programs, including use of PPE and adherence to site-specific rules.
  • Communicate effectively with the foreman, crew, and other trades.
  • Report any hazards, defects, or quality concerns immediately.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings and training when required.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Red Seal Welder or equivalent trade certification preferred (or relevant experience).
  • Demonstrated experience welding with 7018 SMAW electrodes.
  • Ability to read and understand shop drawings and welding symbols.
  • Experience in ironworking or structural steel erection an asset.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy materials/equipment as required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Fall protection, aerial lift, WHMIS, and other safety certifications (or willingness to obtain).

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Apprenticeship

Pay: $20.13-$40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
