Basic Purpose: What is the overall function of the job?

  • To maintain TAT directives for department and customer
  • To produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating Procedures
  • To gain expertise in the area of work by intense training
  • To participate in building a strong team of analytical professionals
  • To resolve analytical problems and suggest improvements in processes
  • Sample pick-up as applicable

Key Accountability/Responsibilities: What specifically is this job expected to accomplish?

  • Required to review/update all Control Charts and bring any inefficiencies promptly to management
  • Ensures and maintains TAT directives for the department
  • Follows all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (with emphasis on quality control)
  • Knowledge of and adherence to QA regulations - ensures a high level of accuracy in sample prep/analysis/documentation and reporting
  • Knowledgeable in PCLI LIMS/EXCEL, SAP, MAX LIMS, etc.
  • Able to communicate verbally as well as sending/receiving emails etc.
  • Communicate all relevant information (eg. instrument issues, priority testing, etc.) to the next shift as well as Management
  • Perform routine daily checks such as SAP check, BF bath check, Control Chart, Daily Order
  • Distinguish and communicate SOP non conformances to management
  • Supports and complies with Bureauveritas policies, Quality System and Partners in Safety program
  • Validates and reports data promptly to the client
  • Prioritize and delegate daily workload to accommodate rushes and specialty analysis and make independent decisions to support the client while following all protocol
  • Performs more complex sample preparation & analyses

  • Understands analysis procedures and problem solves minor issues (being proactive)

  • Identifies and discusses all non-routine samples with fellow Analysts/Sr. Analyst and Management

  • Develops/update SOP's/FCD's and general work instructions as assigned by management
  • Reporting to laboratory management on the performance of the management system and any need for improvement;
  • Ensuring the effectiveness of laboratory activities.
  • Development, modification, verification and validation of methods
  • Analysis of results. Where applicable, this may include statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations
  • report, review and authorization of results.
  • authorizing the resumption of work in the event that work has been halted due to nonconforming work or other reasons.
  • Provides technical expertise, training and mentoring to staff
  • Recommends solutions (technical/ staffing), which will make the lab more effective and competitive
  • Ensures instruments are appropriately maintained
  • Follow up with staff to ensure Balance checks, Temperature checks, Maintenance check and end of shift checks are completed
  • identification of deviations from the management system, including standard operating procedures and work instructions
  • initiation of actions to prevent or minimize such deviations
  • Acts as a positive change agent in supporting Bureauveritas's new initiatives (operational and cultural)
  • Interacts in professional manner with other Bureauveritas staff & clients
  • Ensures a safe environment for staff and customers
  • Develops a strong supportive relationship with the Supervisor, Senior Analysts & colleagues from other locations
  • Works jointly with management in the development of own career path
  • All other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor/ Manager

Skills and Knowledge: What skills and knowledge are used to carry out job responsibilities and solve problems?

Knowledge:

  • A level of education, which culminates with a certificate at a minimum or a diploma (preferred) and/or combination of education and experience. This must be acquired through recognized educational institution in the field of study or extensive experience in a laboratory setting. Attendance at technical seminars, workshops etc. an asset
  • Increase dependability & punctuality in support of their peers and team
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in related area of testing is a benefit
  • Strong sense of urgency and the ability to adapt as needed
  • Strong time management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail & record keeping skills
  • Flexibility to deal with different situations and personalities - the ability to deal with people and promptly advise management of any concerns
  • Able to assess problems and recommend solutions

Working Conditions: Physical work environment, physical effort, visual and listening attention, and travel

  • High level of work production in fast paced lab environment
  • The job requires flexible working hours, overtime and shift work
  • Some lifting and carrying (~40lbs) and may involve long periods of standing
  • Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate personal protective equipment.
