Position Overview
Provide operational and project related training to hospital clinicians and staff for various clinical applications, primarily Cerner Millennium, to support ongoing requirements and the Information Management Strategic Plan. The trainer will work closely with other Clinical Informatics team members, as well as clinical and non-clinical subject matter experts to continuously refine and develop as necessary the education and training approach, curriculum and materials for on-going end-user Cerner education and training.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Clinical Practice and Technological Proficiency
- Demonstrate expertise in Cerner hospital information systems technologies and applications.
- Demonstrate knowledge of hospital staff workflows and roles to inform training and support trainees as a Cerner systems education expert.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and apply Microsoft applications, teleconferencing software (e.g. Zoom), and learning development software (e.g. Camtasia, Adobe Captivate) tosupport and enhance training developmentand delivery.
- Demonstrate confidentiality regarding user and patient information.
2. Development and Delivery of End-User Training
- Develop, maintain, and update training curriculum, manuals, documentation, and materials (including eLearning modules) for Cerner applications.
- Apply learning industry best practices and Adult Learning principles to inform training approaches for face-to-face instruction, virtual learning, and hybrid learning models.
- Prepare for and provide training to all levels of clinical staff.
- Modify instructional methods based on individual and group needs.
- Monitor learner progress and provide additional coaching as needed.
- Create and maintain an environment (physicaland virtual) that optimizeslearning.
- Conduct training needs assessments to evaluate training program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with organizational leadership, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to create, develop, and update trainingcurriculum and training approaches.
- Incorporate feedback from users, subject matter experts, relevant stakeholders, and training needs assessments to inform changes to curriculum, delivery, and administration procedures.
- Provide feedback to management and ITS team regardingprocess improvements, end-user feedback, and content gaps.
3. Organizing, Planning, and Resource Coordination
- Schedule and coordinate training sessions across the organization.
- Respond to training requests and inquiries in a timely manner (viaemail and/or phone).
- Maintain training and resource calendars.
- Manage multiple projects and tasks, and prioritize effectively.
- Collaborate across departments to manage scheduling logistics of room and resource allocation.
- Maintain training rooms and technologies: ensure appropriate technology is identified, available, and in working order.
- Provide administrative, clerical and organizational support to ITS department as needed.
- Schedule and/or attend meetings to support training development and evaluation.
4. End-User Support
- Provide end-user support during new application/module go-lives.
- Provide proactive pre-/post- training support to users, including troubleshooting system issues.
- Provide daytime on-call support for Cerner applications.
- Complete systems user administration: making additions, modifications, and terminations.
- Assist with application testing during system changes, new functionality testing, and upgrades
Education
- Undergraduate degree in Information Technology, adult education, clinical health profession or equivalent
- Adult education certificate/degree (preferred).
Technical Skills:
- 3 years of related training experience (healthcareenvironment anasset)
- Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with Cerner Applications (preferred)
- Experience with Adobe Captivate, Camtasia or other video editing software for e-learning module development (preferred)
Experience
- Minimum 3+ years of demonstrated training, teaching, or facilitation experience in face-to-face, virtual, and hybrid learning environments.
- Minimum 2+ years of demonstrated experience in planning and developing curriculum; designing learning experiences and lesson plans; and creating and maintaining supporting materials and documentation.
- Knowledge and application of Adult Learning principles/theories and industry best practices.
- Engaging presentation and facilitation style.
- Flexible and adaptable, with proven ability to tailor instruction according to learner needs.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and retain concepts, especially with regards to learning new technologies and systems.
- Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple concurrent activities.
- Proven experience working in and collaborating across a large fast-paced organization.
- Proven ability thinking quickly to solve and trouble-shoot problems.
- Self-starter, who takes ownership of work and who is able to work autonomously.
- Strong team player who willingly seeks and accepts constructive feedback.
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
