Purpose

The purpose of this document is to outline the basic role and responsibilities of a Heavy Duty Mechanic for the Suffield Natural Gas Storage facility and the associated reporting structure. It is not the intent of this document to specify all duties associated with the position, but to give a general understanding of the expectations and capabilities the position carries.

Position Description

Reporting to the Superintendent, AECO Operations the successful candidate will provide maintenance on mechanical equipment, ensure proper commissioning and installation of new equipment and supervise mechanical contractors while ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Gas Storage and field facilities.

Note: This position is located at our Suffield, Alberta location. The successful candidate will be required to reside in the Medicine Hat or Brooks area and must have the ability and willingness to travel to and work at our Countess Facility near Hussar, Alberta, when necessary.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Understand and perform safety responsibilities such as Hazard Identification, Lock-Out and Emergency Response.
• Develop and carry out Preventative, Predictive Maintenance on mechanical equipment such as Waukesha and White Superior engines, Superior, IR and Ariel compressors, triplex pumps and other rotating equipment.
• Keep maintenance and performance records on all equipment.
• Maintain mechanical spare parts inventory.
• Recommend Optimization and Risk Management initiatives for mechanical equipment.
• Develop and maintain an effective Vibration Monitoring program for all applicable rotating equipment.
• Prepare mechanical turnaround plans.
• Ensure proper commissioning, installation and start-up of all new plant equipment.
• Supervise and coordinate mechanical contractors on site.
• Assist with mechanical budget preparation, then monitor and report variances
• Respond to call-outs as required.

Qualifications

• Inter-Provincial Journeyman Certification in applicable trade.
• 5+ years progressive experience in gas processing operations.
• Demonstrated ability and self-motivation to work with minimal supervision within a team environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to act as a liaison between multiple technical groups.
• Proven ability to quickly learn new processes and systems.
• Must be organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven leadership skills with a strong work ethic that is open to new challenges.
• Strong technical aptitude with proven analytical, trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in the use of MS Office products.
• A valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license and clean driver's abstract is required.

Physical Requirements in the role:

• Must be able to work a 9-hour shift rotation consisting of 5 on 2 off / 4 on 3 off schedule
• Must be willing to work in warm and cold climate conditions when necessary
• Must be able to comfortably climb ladders and stairs and work at heights
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
• Must be able to work in confined spaces for up to one hour at a time
• Must be able to work with hands below knees and or above shoulders for short periods of time up to 10 minutes
