Role Summary and Purpose

The Accounting Manager is a key contributor to the success of the company by effectively managing the financial reporting and accounting functions of Old Oak.

The role is also responsible for providing strategic recommendations and financial analysis to support construction, development, and property management operational decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Report financial results to shareholders, senior management, and lenders as required.
  • Oversee all accounting operations including accounts receivables, accounts payables, general ledger maintenance, banking operations.
  • Manage, mentor, and train the accounting team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative environment
  • Assess current accounting operations, recommend improvements, and implement new processes.
  • Establish and monitor internal financial controls, policies, and procedures to protect company assets and minimize any risk of loss due to fraud or errors.
  • Maintain accurate construction project costing, monitor budgets, and reconcile expenditures against approved contracts and change orders
  • Prepare project level financial reports and analysis
  • Primary liaison with external auditors and responsible for ensuring annual financial audit is completed, and ASPE financial statements are issued.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian tax regulations (e.g., GST/HST, corporate income tax) and other statutory requirements. Collaborate with external tax experts to direct company-wide activities designed to minimize tax liability.
  • Assist with operational budgeting process, monthly variance analysis, and communicate actionable insights
  • Collaborate with operations management to help identify, investigate, and implement opportunities for increased efficiency, and improvements to our customer experience.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the CFO.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of related professional experience required.
  • CPA designation required.
  • Bachelor's degree or above, preferably in Accounting, Finance or Business required.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and pragmatic decision-making skills to evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations on business issues.
  • Robust knowledge of Microsoft suite applications.
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager software would be considered an asset, but training will be provided to the right candidate.
  • Experience in construction or property management would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Working Hours

  • Flexible hours are available for this position.
  • Total weekly hours between hours a week.
  • Core business hours are from 11 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday.
