Description

The Payroll Administrator is responsible for reviewing timesheet submissions and executing accurate and timely payroll processing on a weekly basis. This role ensures compliance with applicable contracts, laws and internal policies, completes required payroll reporting and responds to employee inquiries on a timely basis.  The role requires strong knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and able to handle sensitive information with high degree of confidentiality.

Salary Range: $50,000 – 60,000/per year.

Responsibilities
  • Review and validate employee time and attendance information prior to payroll submission.  
  • Accurately process the weekly payroll in Oracle for employees across the organization consistent with established deadlines.
  • Prepare and verify employee earnings in accordance with employment contracts, complex union agreements, approved company rules and directives, statutory withholdings and authorized voluntary deductions.
  • Compile required remittances for employee withholdings and benefits, ensuring filings are completed by the respective due dates.
  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and communicate outcomes on a timely basis.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll related filings, government regulations, audit requests, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare reconciliations, supporting schedules and analysis and maintain accurate accounts related to payroll, benefits, and compensation.
  • Perform testing of system enhancements in support of payroll continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Operations and other departments in order to provide exceptional service to all employees. 
  • Assist the payroll and finance teams with completion of all other tasks, as required.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • 2–4 years of experience in union and non-union payroll and accounting roles.
  • Certification with the National Payroll Institute (PCP or CPM) is an asset.
  • Experience with Oracle or other ERP payroll solutions is preferred.
  • Advanced Excel and analysis skills.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and time management skills.
