Job Description – General Accountant

Location: Mississauga, ON

Department: Accounting & Administration

Reports To: Director, Accounting & Administration

Position Summary

The General Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations across Kaneff's commercial, residential, construction, and corporate portfolios. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple priorities while ensuring the accurate, timely, and consistent recording of financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable (AP)
  • Process accounts payable invoices for assigned entities, including scanning, coding, and obtaining required approvals.
  • Review vendor statements, investigate discrepancies, and liaise directly with vendors to resolve issues.
  • Reconcile accounts payable sub-ledgers to the general ledger.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems in accordance with internal standards.
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing accounting-related mail.
  • Complete data entry and administrative accounting tasks as required.
Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Process and apply customer payments in accordance with contractual deposit schedules and lease agreements.
  • Monitor customer compliance with payment terms and follow up on unpaid or overdue deposits, escalating issues as required.
  • Contact customers to verify and update payment and credit card information.
  • Monitor, analyze, and follow up on delinquent and past-due accounts.
  • Reconcile the accounts receivable sub-ledger and investigate variances.
  • Verify, code, and post residential and commercial tenant rent payments.
  • Maintain accurate tenant ledgers, including daily adjustments and corrections.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies identified during revenue and rent reconciliations.
  • Assist with monitoring and resolving aging accounts receivable items.
General Ledger & Financial Controls
  • Prepare journal entries for assigned transactions and submit for review.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances.
  • Perform ongoing reviews to ensure transactions are recorded accurately, consistently, and in a timely manner.
  • Support special projects and ad-hoc analysis as requested by senior management and the accounting team.
Other
  • Perform additional duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned to support the Accounting & Administration team.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact at various levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
Education & Experience
  • College diploma or bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in accounting, with hands-on exposure to both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Experience with Yardi and point-of-sale systems is considered an asset.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
