Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated landscape foreperson to lead and supervise a team of landscaping professionals in the execution of landscape installation, and design projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of landscaping techniques and outdoor construction, as well as experience managing a crew, ensuring quality control, and maintaining safety standards. The landscape foreperson will be a hands-on leader, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of landscaping projects and ensuring they are completed efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead, train, and supervise a team of landscapers, ensuring productivity, quality of work, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Delegate tasks effectively and provide guidance to ensure team members understand their roles and responsibilities.
Landscape Installation:
- Supervise installation of new landscaping projects, including sod, plants, irrigation and lighting systems, and hardscape elements like patios, walkways, and retaining walls.
Quality Control and Efficiency:
- Ensure the quality of landscaping work meets company standards and client expectations.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets the scope of the project and resolve any issues that arise.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget while maintaining high-quality standards
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure that the team adheres to company safety standards at all times.
- Maintain equipment and tools in safe working order and report any malfunctions or needed repairs.
- Ensure the safe handling of chemicals, tools, and machinery.
Customer Service and Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on-site, answering any questions and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Communicate with clients and the owner and office about project progress, issues, and any changes to the scope of work.
Equipment Management:
- Operate and maintain landscaping equipment.
- Manage inventory of landscaping supplies and ensure that all necessary materials and equipment are available for the team.
Qualifications
- Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in landscape construction, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of landscaping techniques, and hardscaping.
- Ability to lead a team and ensure productivity while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with clients and team members.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record; ability to operate landscaping vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and understand landscaping plans and blueprints is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Landscape Industry Certification (e.g., Landscape Industry Certified Technician) is a plus.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Bilingual (English/French) is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform manual labour.
- Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in various outdoor weather conditions.
