About Own the Podium
Own the Podium is a not-for-profit organization that provides leadership for Canadian sports to achieve sustainable and improved podium performances at the Olympic and Paralympic Games through a values-based approach. It prioritizes and determines investment strategies for National Sport Organizations in an effort to deliver more Olympic and Paralympic medals for Canada. Own the Podium's largest contributor of funding is the Government of Canada with additional funding provided by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), the Canadian Olympic Foundation, and the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC). Own the Podium continues to drive Canada's high performance sport system forward in a quest to help more athletes and coaches succeed in future Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Scope of Position
The Controller, Finance serves as the organization's Head Accountant and plays a central role in overseeing all financial operations, reporting, and compliance. Reporting to the Vice President, Partnerships, Finance & Administration, the Controller leads financial planning, budget management, accounting operations, payroll, audit coordination, and funder reporting. This position ensures the integrity of OTP's financial systems, supports evidence-based decision-making, and contributes to the overall financial stability and strategic direction of the organization. The Controller will collaborate closely with senior leadership, funding partners, and internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead OTP's accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, fixed assets, month-end close, and reconciliations.
- Oversee bi-weekly payroll and ensure accurate year-end tax and compliance reporting.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Canadian GAAP.
- Coordinate and lead the annual external audit and all statutory financial reporting.
- Lead financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, program viability, ROI assessments, and strategic advice to senior leadership.
- Manage and report on multi-source grant funding while ensuring compliance with all conditions and deadlines.
- Prepare and present timely financial reports for funders, partners, and the Board, including monitoring program spending and meeting all reporting requirements.
- Strengthen internal controls, business planning processes, and operational efficiency across the organization.
- Manage cash flow, investments, bank reconciliations, financial records, and stakeholder inquiries.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- CPA designation is required.
- 5–7 years of progressively responsible finance and accounting experience (not-for-profit or sport sector experience is an asset).

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial audiences.

- Ability to lead and support change management initiatives.
- Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of nonprofit operations.
- Experience with Microsoft Business Central and Power BI is an asset.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Based in Ottawa, ON, with a hybrid work arrangement.
- Primarily office-based with extended periods working at a computer.
- Requires managing multiple deadlines and deliverables in a dynamic environment.

Portée du poste
Le contrôleur agit comme chef comptable de l'organisation et joue un rôle clé dans la supervision de toutes les opérations financières, de la reddition de comptes et de la conformité. Relevant du vice-président, Partenariats, Finances et Administration, la personne titulaire du poste dirige la planification financière, la gestion budgétaire, les opérations comptables, la paie, la coordination de la vérification et les rapports destinés aux bailleurs de fonds. Ce poste assure l'intégrité des systèmes financiers d'ANP, soutient la prise de décision fondée sur des données probantes et contribue à la stabilité financière globale ainsi qu'à l'orientation stratégique de l'organisation. La personne titulaire collaborera étroitement avec la haute direction, les partenaires financiers et diverses parties prenantes internes et externes.
Responsabilités principales :
- Diriger les opérations comptables d'ANP, y compris le grand livre, les comptes fournisseurs/clients, les immobilisations, la clôture mensuelle et les rapprochements.
- Superviser la paie bihebdomadaire et assurer l'exactitude des rapports fiscaux annuels.
- Préparer les états financiers mensuels, trimestriels et annuels conformément aux PCGR canadiens.
- Coordonner et diriger la vérification externe annuelle et les exigences de rapports statutaires.
- Diriger la planification et l'analyse financières, y compris la préparation budgétaire, les prévisions, l'analyse des écarts, la viabilité des programmes, les évaluations du retour sur investissement et les conseils stratégiques à la haute direction.
- Gérer et rendre compte des financements provenant de sources multiples, tout en veillant au respect de toutes les conditions et échéances.
- Préparer et présenter des rapports financiers aux bailleurs de fonds, aux partenaires et au conseil d'administration, notamment en assurant le suivi des dépenses liées aux programmes et en respectant toutes les exigences en matière de rapports.
- Renforcer les contrôles internes et soutenir l'efficacité organisationnelle.
- Gérer les flux de trésorerie, les investissements, les rapprochements bancaires et les dossiers financiers.
Qualifications :
- Baccalauréat en comptabilité, finances ou administration des affaires (ou combinaison équivalente).
- Désignation CPA obligatoire.
- 5 à 7 ans d'expérience progressive en finance et comptabilité (secteur sans but lucratif ou sportif, un atout).
Compétences clés :
- Compréhension de la gestion financière, des PCGR et du compte rendu des organisations à but non lucratif.
- Compétences en analyse financière, établissement de budget, prévisions et coordination d'audits.
- Jugement professionnel solide et capacité à gérer des enjeux complexes.
- Grande rigueur et souci du détail.
- Excellentes compétences en communication écrite et orale.
- Sens élevé de l'éthique et de l'intégrité en matière de gestion financière.
- Excellentes compétences en gestion du temps et en organisation ; capacité d'adaptation aux priorités changeantes.
- Aptitude à piloter et à accompagner des initiatives de gestion du changement.
- Aptitude à identifier, évaluer et atténuer les risques financiers.
- Solide sens des affaires et bonne compréhension du fonctionnement des organismes à but non lucratif.
- Connaissance de Microsoft Business Central et Power BI (un atout).
- Bilinguisme (anglais/français) considéré comme un atout.
