Role Description:

We are seeking a Hydrology & Drainage Lead Designer. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supporting the design of drainage and hydrology systems for major infrastructure projects, including light rail and metro systems, high-speed rail, highways, and freeways.

Key responsibilities include developing design solutions, preparing technical documentation, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with applicable standards and project requirements. Proficiency with CAD/CAE tools on the Bentley platform is required.

This position offers a balance of in-office collaboration and remote work flexibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support hydrology and drainage design tasks for major infrastructure projects, including light rail, metro, high-speed rail, highways, and freeways
  • Develop stormwater management systems, drainage networks, culverts, and flood protection measures using Bentley OpenFlows, CivilStorm, StormCAD, and related platforms
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, floodplain modeling, and stormwater detention/retention assessments
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local standards (FHWA, Caltrans, AASHTO, state DOT guidelines, environmental and stormwater regulations)
  • Integrate drainage systems with roadway, structural, geotechnical, and environmental designs in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, design drawings, and construction documentation
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering processes
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers, promoting best practices in drainage design
  • Engage with clients, contractors, and agencies to address technical queries and support project delivery
  • Support proposals, cost estimates, and technical methodologies for drainage and hydrology scopes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in civil or environmental engineering (or related field)
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in hydrology, drainage, and stormwater design for infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency with Bentley design tools (MicroStation, OpenFlows, StormCAD, CivilStorm, ProjectWise)
  • Strong knowledge of US design standards and guidelines (FHWA HEC series, AASHTO, Caltrans HDM, state DOTs, stormwater manuals)
  • Familiarity with environmental impact assessments and sustainable drainage practices (e.g., green infrastructure, WSUD principles)
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
  • PE license preferred, or ability to obtain in the near term

What we offer:

  • Opportunity to work on high-profile transportation and infrastructure projects across the US and internationally
  • A collaborative and supportive environment within a global engineering firm
  • Flexible work arrangements with a hybrid in-office/remote model
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package (healthcare, 401(k), etc.)
  • Professional development opportunities including technical training, certifications, and leadership development
  • A diverse and inclusive workplace recognized as a Family Responsible Entity, promoting work-life balance and long-term career growth
