Purchasing Manager

Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking a skilled and motivated individual to lead our Purchasing team. Reporting to the Controller, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for the negotiation and procurement of all materials, supplies, equipment and services for the Company. This role requires a cost-saving focus while maintaining strong relationships with external vendors and suppliers. Will also provide best-in-class support for internal customers, primarily the Maintenance and Operations Departments, to maximize paper machine up-time.

Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate key contracts for raw materials, high-value operating supplies and capital projects
  • Overall responsibility for the Purchasing and Stores Departments
  • Management of raw material, finishing supplies, and MRO inventory levels
  • Work collaboratively with the Engineering and Maintenance departments on key maintenance and capital projects to deliver the highest return

Skills/Competency Requirements:

  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Effective negotiating skills
  • Strong decision making ability
  • Robust communication, planning, organization and leadership skills
  • Proficient computer skills with a very strong functional capacity with ERP
  • Extensive knowledge of supplier and construction contracts
  • Extensive experience with purchase order creation, contract principles, inventory management and transportation systems
  • Continuous improvement as a core value

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • Undergraduate business degree, or other relevant degree
  • 10 plus years of purchasing experience, preferably in an industrial setting
  • Supply Chain Management Designation (SCMP) will be considered an asset
