JOB SUMMARY

The Climate Change and Resiliency Service is responsible for a directed and coordinated approach to implementing the Climate Change Master Plan, Energy Evolution Strategy, the Climate Resiliency Strategy, the Urban Forest Management Plan, and associated priorities, programs, projects, and policies. This service area will provide strategic leadership on climate change issues, responses, emerging technologies, and pilot projects, in partnership with other entities.
 
The Pilots, Governance & Reporting team leads the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of initiatives that advance the City's climate and sustainability goals. The team manages governance frameworks, performance monitoring, and reporting to ensure transparency and continuous improvement. It also develops long-term strategies and programs aligned with the Climate Change and Resiliency mandate, fosters internal and external partnerships for collaborative delivery, and supports enabling projects with cross-cutting benefits.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 4 year degree in urban and regional planning or a field related to planning or the unit's area of expertise (such as landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, urban geography, engineering, environmental planning).

Minimum of 8 years of related and progressively responsible, professional experience in the unit's area of expertise

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Registered Professional Planner (RPP) OR Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) OR Licensed Architect OR Landscape Architect (Full Member) OR Registered Professional Geoscientist OR Certified Environmental Professional KNOWLEDGE
  • Applicable legislation, policies and processes for example: the Planning Act, the Municipal Act, the Environmental Assessment Act, the Environmental Protection Act, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, the Ontario Water Resources Act, the Conservation Authorities Act, the Heritage Act, the City's Official Plan and Master Plans, Zoning By-Law, and related policies, the Development Approvals process, and environmental management systems.
  • Global, national and local initiatives, agreements and agencies related to the unit's area of expertise
  • Municipal planning principles and practices
  • Theories, concepts, methodologies, principles and/or practices relating to the unit's area of expertise
  • Public consultation practices
  • Project management principles and practices
  • Available computer technology and tools related to unit's area of expertise.
