The University Advancement team plays a critically important role in advancing the university's strategy in support of its ambitious vision, in partnership with academic and administrative leaders across all campuses.University Advancement at McMaster is an integrated department that encompasses the areas of Development, Alumni Advancement, Stewardship, Volunteer Engagement and Advancement Services & Operations; areas that coordinate their activities and work as a team to build relationships, reputation, and resources.Position Summary:Reporting to the Director, Development, Faculty Health Sciences, the Associate Director, Development will support the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Medicine.The Faculty of Health Sciences, trains Canada's next generation of healthcare practitioners, researchers and entrepreneurs – including physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, and biomedical scientists. The Faculty ranks among the top 50 in the world, and top 2 in Canada, for health and clinical medicine. Internationally renowned for its medical education and research excellence, the Faculty of Health Sciences is comprised of four schools alongside a multitude of high-impact research institutes and centres. Areas of research excellence include allergy, asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, childhood disability, diabetes, gastroenterology, health equity, pain, infectious diseases and virology.University Advancement at McMaster University is a flexible, dynamic and ambitious team. We strengthen McMaster's relationships, secure new revenue and develop a pipeline of funders and supporters for the University. The primary means of raising funds involves face-to-face meetings and virtual visits, often involving University leadership and top researchers from our Faculty. As Associate Director, Development, Department of Medicine, you will drive the identification, cultivation, and development of a customized fundraising and recognition/stewardship plans for some of McMaster's most significant funders.About the Department of MedicineWelcome to the Department of Medicine within the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University. The mission of the Department of Medicine is to provide outstanding clinical care, to provide superlative education and to maintain our position as a world-leading centre for research and innovation. With almost 330 full-time faculty, and more than 520 non-geographically full-time (GFT) faculty, the department consists of 18 divisions spanning the breadth of internal medicine. We provide our services to the people of Hamilton, St. Catharines and the Kitchener Waterloo area, as well as other regional centres. We work closely with our hospital partners at the Hamilton Health Sciences, St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, the Niagara Healthcare System and other regional partner institutions to deliver excellent clinical care, framed in the context of academic inquiry.AccountabilitiesReporting to the Director, Development in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and working closely with the Chair, Department of Medicine and other key stakeholders, the Associate Director will:Be the primary driver of overall private fundraising revenue for the Department of Medicine, the Faculty and the University in support of their objectives.Proactively champion opportunities for new revenue in support of McMaster's research and educational goals, within the Faculty.Work with funders toward gifts of a minimum of $50,000-$5,000,000, which have a mid-to high degree of complexity and involve many different stakeholders, some of whom may be internal and external to the University.Work collaboratively on strategic gifts in partnership with University Advancement's senior leaders, consistent with a team approach to development strategy.Advance and enhance the relationships, reputation, and resources of the Department of Medicine and the Faculty, through relationship building and revenue generation.In conjunction with the Director, Development, provide counsel to senior academic leadership on the largest gifts to the Faculty.As a leader on the FHS Development team, provide peer leadership efforts to secure and grow a base of major and principal gift-level supporters, and to steward these supporters in a manner so as to inspire them to establish, grow and sustain meaningful relationships with the University.As a leader on the FHS Development team, create and maintain positive, productive relationships and build and support a vibrant, diverse and high-performance team of professionals within the Faculty.Provide peer leadership efforts to secure and grow a base of major and principal gift-level supporters, and to steward these supporters in a manner to inspire them to establish, grow and sustain meaningful relationships with the University.Ability to work closely with the senior officers of the University, in particular the President, Chancellor, Vice-Presidents, and Provosts and Deans.Qualifications:Education:A University degree, or consideration given to equivalent combinations of education and experience.CFRE designation or equivalent is an asset..Experience:Proven track record of success in securing $1M and above complex giftsMinimum of 8 years demonstrated experience in major giving fundraising, preferably within the post-secondary sector.Experience leading and managing teams of high-performing, donor-centred development professionals.Experience working with senior executives and leadership volunteers. Ability to work effectively in a complex organizational environment.Exceptional ability to inspire and engage high-net-worth prospects, articulate institutional priorities, and present philanthropic opportunities. Strong prospect management, strategic planning, budgeting, and financial management skills.This position may require travel.
