Road / Independent Adjuster
Royal Claims Services Ltd. is a Canadian Third-Party Administrator (TPA) handling complex and specialty commercial claims on behalf of domestic insurers and the Lloyd's market. As we continue to grow, we are building out a dedicated road adjuster function and are looking for an experienced, self-directed adjuster to help shape this new arm of our company.
The Role
In this hybrid field and desk role, you will:
- Attend losses on-site for commercial property claims (fire, water, equipment, specialty risks, etc.).
- Directly handle commercial property files from first notice to resolution, including investigation, coverage analysis (within authority), quantum assessment, negotiation, and reporting.
- Receive and complete task assignments (site inspections, statements, scene photos, scope reviews, etc.) from other adjusters.
- Work on files that may involve commercial liability exposures (e.g., slip and fall, property damage, bodily injury), collaborating with senior adjusters where appropriate.
- Prepare clear, timely reports for insurers, coverholders, and Lloyd's markets.
- Communicate regularly with insureds, brokers, experts, and insurers to move files forward.
- Work both on the road and at a desk, depending on current assignment and volume.
- Help refine and improve our processes for field adjusting as this service line grows.
Minimum Requirements (What You Must Bring)
- Proven experience as an independent or road adjuster, with a clear focus on commercial property claims.
- Strong working knowledge of commercial property claims handling: investigation, scoping, estimating, and settlement.
- Exposure to commercial liability claims (e.g., involvement on files, assisting senior adjusters, or handling basic liability tasks) and a willingness to grow in this area.
- Solid file management skills: reserving, documentation, reporting, and diary control.
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal – with the ability to handle difficult conversations professionally and calmly.
- Comfort using technology for claims handling (claims systems, email, digital photos, remote meetings, etc.).
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle suitable for regular travel to loss locations.
Ideal Candidate Profile (Perfect World)
In a perfect world, you are someone who:
- Can independently handle both commercial property and commercial liability claims from start to finish.
- Has broader commercial liability experience (GL, premises, products, or specialty programs).
- Has experience working with Lloyd's business or specialty/commercial programs.
- Holds (or is working toward) industry designations such as CIP/FCIP, CRM, or similar.
These are not all hard requirements, but additional liability depth will be considered a strong asset.
Who You Are
- A self-starter who doesn't need to be micromanaged.
- Comfortable operating in a growing, changing environment where not every process is set in stone.
- Able to adapt between field work and desk work, depending on demand.
- Professional, organized, and able to manage multiple files at different stages without losing track.
- Someone who enjoys building relationships with insureds, brokers, and insurer partners while still protecting the insurer's and program's interests.
Compensation
We understand that adjusters value flexibility and recognition for the work they do. For this role, we can offer:
- Flexible compensation options, including:
- Salary-based structure; or
- Commission / fee-based structure; or
- A hybrid model, depending on experience and preference.
- Reimbursement for approved business travel expenses and mileage.
- Potential for performance-based incentives as this service line grows.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and can be tailored for the right candidate.
Why Royal Claims Services?
- Growing, innovation-minded Canadian TPA with strong relationships in the commercial and Lloyd's markets.
- Opportunity to help build and shape a new arm of the company rather than stepping into a static role.
- Collaborative environment where management is hands-on and accessible.
- Chance to work on diverse and interesting claims across multiple industries and specialty programs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
Benefits:

- Extended health care
- Flexible schedule
- RRSP match
- Work from home
