Overview

Cartwright Cares is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced Health Care Aide (HCA) to provide enhanced personal and physical support to adult clients with complex care needs.

The successful candidate will deliver respectful, client-centered care while promoting independence, dignity, and quality of life. While one primary client may be within a private home setting, staff may also support additional Cartwright Cares clients as required.

This position is ideal for an HCA who is confident working independently, adaptable, and passionate about providing high-quality, relationship-based care.

Key Responsibilities

Health Care Aides in this role may provide support including, but not limited to:

• Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and toileting
• Mobility assistance and transfers, including the safe use of lifts, wheelchairs, and other mobility equipment
• Medication assistance and reminders as outlined in individualized care plans
• Support with physical activities, mobility routines, and maintaining functional independence
• Accompaniment to medical appointments, community outings, recreational activities, or business-related tasks
• Meal preparation based on dietary needs and preferences
• Light housekeeping and maintaining a clean, safe living environment
• Companionship and emotional support to promote mental and social well-being
• Errands and shopping (vehicle may be provided depending on placement)
• Accurate documentation and communication with supervisors, healthcare professionals, and families
• Monitoring and reporting changes in client condition to the LPN, Supervisor, or Owner/Director

Mandatory Requirements

• Government of Alberta–approved Health Care Aide Certificate
• Registration with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
• Current First Aid and CPR-C Certification
• Clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening
• Valid Driver's License
• Proof of personal vehicle insurance (minimum $1,000,000 liability) if using own vehicle
• Ability to work independently in private home environments
• Fluency in spoken and written English

Preferred Qualifications (Assets, Not Required)

• Experience supporting adults with mobility limitations or neurological conditions (e.g., MS, SCI, complex physical disabilities)
• Confidence using mobility aids, lifts, and transfer equipment
• Previous live-in or extended-shift caregiving experience
• Certificate or diploma in Disability Support or related field
• Comfort working in homes with pets (cats or other animals may be present)

Working Conditions

• Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

• Work locations may include private homes and community settings

Compensation & Benefits

Wage:

• $22.00–$26.00/hour, depending on experience and qualifications
