Every business relies on accounting. Yet most software in the space was built in the early 2000s — clunky, slow, and far behind the curve on AI. Today, accountants are facing a growing, unsolved data problem as a consequence of complexity, data, and system fragmentation — and they lack the tools to solve it. The problems are real, hard, and increasingly urgent. But they're solvable.
Enter Numeric — the modern platform for accounting and finance. We're building the platform that realizes the dream of live, rich, trustworthy data and insights for companies to drive decision-making & execution.
We tackle foundational challenges required to automate ingest, transformation, matching, projection, and reporting for an end-to-end graph of financial data. Weaving together data, automation, workflows, and AI-first experiences, we're empowering accounting teams to own the continuous window into companies' finances and activity.
We have strong product market fit and a growing base of customers who love our product — including Anthropic, Brex, OpenAI, Plaid, Wealthfront, and many more. We're backed by top-tier investors including IVP, Menlo Ventures, Founders Fund, and 8VC, along with founders and executives from Ramp, Segment, and other category-defining companies.
About the roleAs an engineer at Numeric, you will own end-to-end execution of product execution as well as inform product strategy and direction. We look for bright, fast builders with strong fundamentals and a focus on helping our users and solving the right problems.
What you might work onOur data platform, consisting of:
Ingestion, metadata management, lineage, and transformation to support the depth and nuance for detailed analysis and insight while maintaining traceability to sources.
Our reporting experience where end users can flexibly define highly-structured projections of financials to be saved as reports and integrated into their workflows. Reports are traceable and composable, allowing users to drill down to the underlying transaction-level details and more.
Monitoring, enabling customers to catch bad data at the source and avoid the pain and headaches of cleaning up mistakes weeks or months late.
Our core automation engines:
Our generalizable accounting engine brings structure to chaos, automating a massive proportion of the work and reducing manual error and turning accountants into engineers.
With our cash matching product, we save our customers hundreds of painstaking hours each month to resolve event streams of transactions by combining rules, statistical methods, and AI to automate and build the financial graph.
Our underlying tooling for simulation (and associated DSL), projection, time travel, and more which enables us to rapidly iterate while ensuring correctness and consistency.
Our workflow and AI layers:
We drive complex cyclical work with dependencies, communication, insights, and workflow automations to help our customers manage world-class operations and support smooth month-end close and year-end audits.
We take pride in our delightful user experience, and depend on both excellent design and nuanced AI workflows to bring the full power of our platform together for our users.
Computer science or other technical degree
4+ years of experience in software engineering
This role is in-person in San Francisco or New York.
As an engineer at Numeric you will learn the domain, meet your users, and exercise substantial creativity and agency over product direction. You'll work with a high-pace, high-integrity team that loves collaboration.
We believe the best company is the one with the best ICs and we've built a culture to maximize great work. We believe great product & engineering come from a desire to win, a deep care for the craft, and a pragmatism in shipping for overall impact. As engineers we ground our work in our understanding of the users, the domain, and the goals for our organization.
We strongly believe we will only be successful if everyone on the team is anchored in our following set of core principles:
Own the Outcome: We own our results. We typically hire builders and give them large mandates with high-trust. Engineers are responsible not just for code, but for ensuring the product is solving the end problems of the users.
Brick by Brick: To win, our team needs to show up and execute in each domain every day.
Love the Game: We focus on the craft and a deep sense of giving a f*ck. We're building a company full of people who are equally engaged and motivated.
Earn the right: Our ability to rethink how things are done depends on the trust and reputation we build by shipping quality products and improving the lives of our users.
SALY: We refuse to accept "Same As Last Year." We bring fresh eyes to a stagnated and underserved domain. We're driven by a first-principles approach to building better solutions.
