Job Description
The primary responsibility of the NDE Technician & Coordinator is to lead all coordination activities between Production, Project Management, Welding Quality Control (WQC) and NDT service providers. This role ensures that all inspections are performed in accordance with the production schedule and priorities, and that reports are delivered and reviewed as required. The incumbent may also perform NDE on welds or components.
The position ensures specifications, class rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), NDE procedures and work instructions are followed/met at each stage of construction. The NDE Technician/Coordinator will work closely with the Sr. NDE technician and WQC supervisor and ensure project requirements are met as efficiently as possible. The successful candidate will perform in-process and final NDE inspections to identify non-conformities with contract requirements, develop corrective actions and communicate requirements to shop personnel. This role may be requested to support afternoon shift team when required.
The NDE Technician & Coordinator directly reports to the Welding QC Supervisor.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 825 Admirals Road, Victoria.
What You'll Do
- Coordinating between Production, Project management, WQC and NDT service providers to make sure NDT requests with sufficient information are submitted to NDE service provider.
- Reviews and submits NDT requests and reviews results to make sure specifications, class rules, work instructions, SOP and NDE procedures requirements have been met.
- Ensures non-destructive tests are completed in accordance with NDT plan or QC/engineering and customer requirements.
- Ensure all reports are submitted in a timely manner.
- Review NDT reports and ensure they meet the contracted requirements.
- Weekly review of NDT metrics and databases and submitting verified information to other departments.
- Performs daily in-process or final NDE of work. Document and communicate results to responsible supervisors.
- Attend formal inspections with customers and regulatory bodies if required. Documents all non-conformities and provide results to responsible supervisors and the Quality Department.
- Works with trade and area supervisors/managers to improve in-process quality.
- Performs gap analyses of work instructions and SOPs for trade specific systems. Communicates results to the respective area and assists in modifying or adding work instructions and SOPs as required.
- Performs periodic audits of suppliers to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
What You'll Bring
- Current valid CGSB MT and PT level II and CWB CSA W178.2 level 1 or 2 Welding Inspector certification is required (or AWS CWI to receive CWB certification).
- Minimum 5 years detailed experience working as a Welding QC inspector/coordinator – Structure and Piping.
- Any other valid CGSB Certification is desirable.
- Relevant trade experience is desirable.
- Detailed understanding of the fabrication, installation, commissioning and testing of trade specific systems.
- Solid understanding of quality control and inspection procedures.
- Exhibited ability to develop and follow Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans.
- Proven ability to read and understand manufacturing/shop drawings.
- Strong technical skills including an understanding of quality techniques and their application.
- Technical understanding of all common NDT techniques and their application to meet contract, regulatory and statutory requirements for trade specific systems.

- Excellent computer proficiency including Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint

- Ability to acquire Industrial Security Clearance.

The estimated salary for this position is $99, ,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
