Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated
Machine Operator & Non-Ferrous Sorter
to join our Richmond team. This role involves operating the scrap metal baler, sorting and upgrading non-ferrous metals by hand, and using a skid steer to move and organize materials. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced yard environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the scrap metal baler safely and efficiently.
  • Manually sort, separate, and upgrade non-ferrous metals (e.g., aluminum, copper, brass).
  • Operate a skid steer for material handling and yard organization.
  • Inspect and identify different metal types accurately.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times.
  • Follow safety procedures and report any equipment issues or hazards.
  • Assist with general yard duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in metal recycling, machine operation, or material handling is an asset.
  • Knowledge of non-ferrous metals and their grades is preferred but not required.
  • Comfortable performing physical, hands-on work in an outdoor environment.
  • Safety-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to operate yard equipment (e.g., skid steer).
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the scrap metal recycling industry.
  • Able to perform basic preventive maintenance on machines (e.g., checking fluid levels, greasing, replacing hoses, and more)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $23.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Overtime: Optional overtime opportunities available on Saturdays
  • Full-time, stable position
  • Supportive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Training provided for safety and equipment operation.
