- Monitor and control plant processes from the control room, adjust operating parameters, respond to alarms, and coordinate with field operators to ensure safe and efficient facility performance.
- Perform field work such as inspections, plant rounds, and water testing.
- Operate major auxiliary equipment such as air compressors, demineralized water systems, generator cooling systems, steam turbines, condensers, and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment to support reliable plant operation.
- Prepare equipment for service by following established procedures and safety protocols to maintain compliance and a safe work environment.
- Comply with the Operating Engineers Act and Boiler and Pressure Vessels Act.
- Communicate with IESO and Hydro One to report outage events and request permission to commence transmission when output is available.

- Conduct regular visual inspections and equipment walkdowns to identify abnormal conditions, malfunctions, or required adjustments, and report findings promptly.
- Maintain accurate logs documenting operational activities, equipment status, and any abnormalities encountered during the shift.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards during all operations, and participate in inspections, safety drills, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Assist maintenance teams during outages or scheduled work by preparing equipment and coordinating system isolation and restoration.
- Support troubleshooting of operational issues, including basic mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control system abnormalities, escalating complex problems to maintenance staff.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
Work is performed in a power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials. Employees may be exposed to fumes, extreme temperatures, elevated noise levels, and varying outdoor weather conditions, including heat near operating equipment.
Some duties may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, face shields, respirators, hearing protection, chemical-resistant suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Respirator fit testing may be required. Strict no-smoking policies apply in and around the facility.
