Position Summary
NewFields is seeking a Civil Design Technologist (Junior–Intermediate Level) to join its team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The position will include working with engineers on small to large scale projects to generate detailed designs, redesigns, and edits on civil engineering projects.
The successful candidate will be working from sketches, mark ups and verbal instructions to produce the final design. The position requires high level skills working with 3D modelling applications including but not limited to Autodesk Civil 3D, Muk3D Global Mapper and Infraworks. The position will require assisting senior staff in carrying out technical tasks in the design/construction environment. Tasks include managing large amounts of field data, interpreting provided data for the use of design, generating construction level drawings and plans in a timely manner.
The ideal candidate shall have excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and sound judgment with a desire to learn new skills. The position requires superior written and oral skills and the ability to interface effectively with project teams and clients.
Key Responsibilities
· Create Drawings from scratch using client data and field notes.
· Development of plans, cross sections and details at construction level to support engineering projects.
· Optimize the use of alignments, profiles, and assemblies to generate surface models to assist engineers with analysis of proposed designs.
· Generate volume surfaces with the use of Civil3D and Muk3D to create material take offs.
· Adhere to company standards and procedures to ensure quality of work.
· Maintain and follow data management protocol.
· Support the preparation of professional technical reports.
· Liaise with other technical specialists including engineers, hydrogeologists, hydrologists, geochemists, rock mechanics, environmental and other disciplines.
· Participate in team-based project work resulting in client satisfaction and the on-time completion of high-quality technical work.
Candidate will be working directly with professional engineers and will be trained in the design and construction of mine infrastructure including but not limited to earthen embankments, tailings storage facilities, muck pads, water management structures, waste rock dumps and haul roads.
Position Requirements
Education Requirement: Technical diploma or certificate in Civil/Mining Engineering Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology or related discipline from a program recognized by Technology Professionals Saskatchewan, or equivalent.
Experience Requirement: Previous internship or experience with civil, geotechnical or mining company preferred, but not required.
Professional Licensure: Candidates will be registered or be eligible for registration as an Associate or Professional Technologist / Certified Technician Member of the Technology Professionals Saskatchewan.
Computer Software: Knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D, Muk3D Global Mapper, InfraWorks, FME, Microsoft Office products and other engineering design software a plus.
Travel: Not required but opportunities may arise.
Physical Demands: Position may require sitting for long periods of time, extended hours working on a computer.
