Job Summary:

The Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (CLRI) is a program of the Baycrest Academy for Research and Education, Bruyère, and Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) that partners with the long-term care (LTC) sector to enhance the health and well-being of those who live and work in LTC homes. We provide programs and resources to train and engage the current and future workforce. The Ontario CLRI is funded by the Ministry of Long Term Care (LTC) of Ontario.

The Director, Baycrest, Ontario CLRI will provide strategic and operational leadership to the Ontario CLRI program in partnership with RIA and Bruyère. The role will be accountable for the successful implementation of Ontario CLRI projects and initiatives, including budget management. As an experienced leader, the Director, Ontario CLRI will guide a team of professionals to enhance the health and well-being of those who live and work in LTC homes across Ontario. This role will establish and maintain strategic partnerships with government funders, key LTC and education partners, and researchers to achieve impact and meet the changing needs of the sector. Additionally, this role will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities, leading proposal writing and supporting the writing and securing of new funding.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
CLRI Leadership

  • Fulfills the Ontario CLRI Program contractual agreement and meets the Program's mandate, emerging priorities and deadlines as established by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Ontario.
  • Works collaboratively with CLRI team members, other Directors, CLRI executives and stakeholders to establish annual CLRI priorities and the implementation plan.
  • Provides leadership in the planning, development, implementation and testing of educational innovations, including iterative program and product development to support deliverables.
  • Develops and implements educational strategies and promotes research to support uptake of evidence-based and leading practices.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, and training across the long-term care sector on learning practices, methodologies and tools.
  • Provides leadership in establishing a strong Research component and ensuring that Innovation is central to all activities of the Ontario CLRI at Baycrest.
  • Provides leadership in the Evaluation component of the Ontario CLRI at Baycrest as prescribed by the Government of Ontario.
  • Ensures that the Baycrest Executive sponsors are kept informed and engaged throughout the various phases of the Ontario CLRI Program.

Learning Culture

  • Works towards facilitating cultural change at every level of Baycrest to promote the integration of learning, research and innovation.
  • Develops and implements strategies to spread improvement initiatives.
  • Promotes research and evidence-based practices and best practices.
  • Designs and develops knowledge mobilization strategies to integrate research, education, and care across all Baycrest entities.

Continuous Quality Improvement Excellence

  • Communicates with executives, committee members, and stakeholders, including LTC homes, to keep them informed and engaged in the Ontario CLRI's learning, research, and innovation initiatives and to ensure programming is responsive to Government of Ontario and stakeholder priorities.
  • Examines processes, recommends and advises on implementation of educational solutions to improve practices that contribute to improved patient care, learning and innovation.
  • Develops and implements processes for the iterative development of and integration of new evidence and best practices for educational curricula and programming.
  • Liaises with necessary internal stakeholders (e.g., legal services, human resources, information technology, innovation office, finance) to amend or create procedures and policies to support and scale innovation

Analytic and Quantitative Support

  • Serves as an expert resource within the organization and with external long-term care homes and stakeholders regarding learning, research and innovation in a clinical environment.
  • Applies a wide range of analytical techniques, statistical methods, and/or process tools to improve learning, research, and innovation.
  • Assists long-term care homes and academic partners to apply a variety of learning methodologies and tools.
  • Communicates with project leaders on a regular basis regarding project status/barriers to ensure the success of respective projects.
  • Analyzes broader system trends and seeks synergies and opportunities for collaboration and innovation within and across organizations and sectors

Program-Based Initiatives: Divisional Learning Initiatives

  • Coordinates assigned organizational/departmental learning initiatives.
  • Supports organizational strategies and initiatives, manages and coordinates the development and implementation of program-based learning improvement processes, ensuring alignment with broader Baycrest initiatives.

Corporate And Divisional Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development and strategy for Education, BARE and Baycrest Seniors Care.
  • Oversees budget, contracts, purchases and relationships with consultants and vendors
  • Manages and coordinates CLRI team schedules and workloads to ensure deliverables and deadlines are met
  • Supervises and mentors CLRI team members and student interns.
  • Knowledge Transfer & Skills Development
  • Delivers presentations at local, provincial, national, and international meetings, conferences, seminars.
  • Prepares and presents reports for a variety of audiences and all levels of the organization (i.e., programs, executive team, committees) and for external audiences (e.g., government, public).
  • Collaborates with innovators, educators, and researchers to compile findings and prepare results for publication.

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Masters' degree in a health care discipline or related field of study is required, for example social sciences, education,
  • PhD is preferred
  • Project management certification is required, or related experience
  • Certificate and/or training in Knowledge Mobilization is required, or related experience.
  • Minimum 6 – 9 years' experience
  • Minimum five (5) years related management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in project and change management.
  • Previous experience in a non-profit organization, particularly a complex health care facility (Hospital and/or Long-Term Care facility) is preferred
  • Subject Matter Expert: performs in highly complex technical or professional work at an advanced level and advise at an authoritative level in one or more technical or professional areas.
  • Demonstrated strong technical skills including evaluation, measurement, data collection and data analysis, and ability to integrate best practices.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of software, including MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in virtual communication, project management, website, web conferencing and educational software and technologies
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • The role has internal and external responsibilities and scope of practice, as well, works with the other two centres, and represents the Ontario CLRI at Ministry and other government tables.
