Bedford Ready Mix has been in operation since 1985 and is a proud member of OSCO Concrete. In addition to its resources shared with other OSCO Concrete members, the Bedford location also hosts a four-bay repair facility capable of handling the largest OSCO Concrete pumps. This collaboration has made Bedford and its other OSCO Concrete members one of the largest concrete suppliers in the Maritimes. Bedford performs a mix of work encompassing residential and large-scale industrial/commercial projects. OSCO Concrete also operates a large fleet of concrete pumps, including the largest concrete boom pump east of Montreal.

Job Summary

The Ready Mix Technician is responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting on various concrete and aggregate samples in both field and lab settings. The ideal candidate must perform their duties focusing on a high level of quality, attention to detail and ownership of work as well as being able to effectively communicate with other departments and plant/field personnel. This position will need to execute material sample collections, monitor results and offer ideas for manufacturing process improvement to ensure the company and its products meet all necessary quality and safety standards. The Ready Mix Technician will need to be a team player, willing to support other areas of the business with projects and day to day tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Collect concrete and aggregate samples from various production plants/job sites and deliver them to labs in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI
  • Record, analyze and maintain a database of test results and prepare summaries of findings
  • Report collected data verbally and/or in writing to management and operations in a timely manner
  • Perform routine testing of standard mixes and perform/test trial mixes for special placements or performance specifications
  • Conduct routine sampling of stockpiles
  • Evaluate new materials and admixtures
  • Provide operational relief duties at various (plant / site) and assist manager with customer service
  • Proactively suggest improvements to current processes
  • Learn concrete batching, dispatching, and quality control software (specifically used to analyze mix designs)
  • Perform Surface/Ground Water Sampling at OSCO's plants within Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI
  • Assist with special projects as required
  • Additional duties as assigned

Technical Requirements

  • Successful completion of Engineering Technology diploma or equivalent technical training
  • 1-3 years of related experience (preferably within the concrete industry) would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience in concrete and aggregate testing within a lab setting

Business Requirements

  • Experience using MS office programs
  • Desire to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Be aware of and comply with all relevant safety policy and procedures

  • A team player with the desire to work collaboratively with others to improve existing processes
