McGill Residence Life is hiring fifty (50) Communications Assistant C roles (hereby known as Residence Life Facilitators) for the academic year. Applicants must be returning McGill students who will be registered as full-time students for both the Fall and winter term in the academic year. This position is for part-time programming staff that work within our residences (Mac Campus or Downtown Campus)

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Residence Life Advisor or Residence Life Manager, Residence Life Facilitators plan and produce events across all McGill Residences throughout the academic year. They also provide administrative support to assist in the overall functioning of the Residence Life Office. This can include content creation, event promotion, and assisting in community engagement management. Working with partners across campus to promote community in Residence. They establish and assist Residences Councils.
Job Content:
Help to plan, coordinate and attend Residence Welcome Week Events
Prepare informative presentations including but not limited to Residence Council Orientation.
Promote participation in residence councils to all new residence students.
Prepare all materials for Hall Committee Elections and Orientations, including but not limited to promotional materials, ballots and information sessions.
Assist with the planning and coordination of Residence Hall Committee activities and meetings throughout the academic year.
Schedule and attend regular office hours and team meetings ongoing throughout the year (up to six office hours weekly must take place between 9AM – 5PM, Monday to Friday. Remaining working hours may occur during evenings and weekends).
Weekly meeting with the Residence Life Facilitator Team and the Residence Life Advisor or Residence Life Manager.
Expected to support and facilitate Residence Life events (evenings/weekends may be required).
Participate in Life Beyond Residence taking place in the winter semester.
Some Residence Life Facilitators will focus on specific portfolios (see below), while others focus on specific communities, however, scope may differ based on the discretion and need of the department.
Managing the community social media including creating and sharing engaging content, promoting events, and answering residents' questions related to event details.
Provide support and assistance with SHHS initiatives supported by Residence Life, as well as other administrative Residence Life initiatives.
A uniform will be provided and is required for certain job functions.
Coordinate Residence Life Programming within your assigned Residence community.

July 26, 2026 – May 1, 2027
Approximate Breakdown of Hours:
Must be available for training, in person, starting August 10th, 2026 (unless otherwise communicated).
20-30 hours per week in August
10-15 hours per week in September
10-12 hours per week in October through April
Main Places of in-person Work (subject to change):
Macdonald Campus: Laird or Eco
Downtown Campus: Royal Victoria College, University Hall, Solin Hall, Douglas Hall, Gardner Hall, McConnell Hall, Molson Hall, New Residence Hall, Carrefour Sherbrooke, La Citadelle, and other locations on campus.
Communications Assistant Cs (Residence Life Facilitators) work to implement the following programs within McGill Residences. Potential job portfolios may include the following (subject to change):
Inter-Residence Council Coordinator
Coordinate IRC, Hall Council elections.
Support IRC and Hall councils throughout the year in office hours and at IRC meetings.
Offer institutional memory to Councils and Committees.
Provide unbiased conflict resolution.
Community Engagement and Equity Council Coordinator
Offer residence students advice and resources to connect with community organizations (volunteering, activism, education, social justice).
Facilitate meetings of the Community Engagement and Equity Committee (CEEC)
Act as a resource person to the CEEC in their efforts to plan events and community build
Act as a resource person to councils and Residence Life on matters related to equity and anti-oppression.
Sustainability & Environmental Residence Council Coordinator
Help coordinate IRC and Environmental Residence Council (ERC) elections
Support ERC, Food Reps and Bike Reps throughout the year in office hours and at meetings
Offer institutional memory re: sustainability initiatives
Provide unbiased conflict resolution to the ERC
Liaise with SHHS' Food and Dining and Facilities Sustainability Coordinators to increase and maintain sustainable initiatives in Residences.
Health & Wellness
Plan and execute events promoting health and well-being within the residences
Liaise with Athletics and Recreation to plan and promote events on campus.
Provide a range of events that will appeal to various groups and introduce new activities to students living in residence.
Community and Culture
Plan and execute events promoting Arts and culture across the campus.
Liaise with groups at McGill and within Montreal.
Introduce students to Montreal's various cultural institutions and museums.
Provide programming that will appeal to various groups and introduce students to new events and activities within Montreal.
French Language Programming (Macdonald & Downtown Campuses)
Plan and execute events to expose students to the French language and Québecois Culture.
Host Language Cafés for students to practice the French Language within a peer learning environment.
Introduce students to local and Québecois cultural events and institutions.
Candidates for these positions must demonstrate fluency in French and possess a specific interest in Québecois culture.
Neighborhood RLF
The majority of successful candidates will be assigned to work within a specific residence community and will facilitate events within that community.
Working with their assigned manager and team, the RLFs will plan and execute events tailored to the specific needs of their community.
RLFs will be expected to participate in both small-scale recurring events, and larger scale programming throughout the academic year.
RLFs will assist with the Neighbourhood Hall Committees.
RLFs will create engaging content to be shared on social media and will help promote events taking place within their communities.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be full-time McGill students in good standing throughout the and academic year.
Strong ability to work in a team, leading and following as the case may warrant.
Ability to follow through on project timelines independently.
Knowledge of, and experience participating in McGill residence programming an asset, but not a requirement.
Ability to communicate professionally with students, McGill staff and outside contacts.
Applicants must be able to connect with students through different channels (i.e., in person, through social media) and be comfortable approaching students to initiate conversations.
Proficiency in social media and Canva is an asset.
Willingness to be flexible, to learn and to give and receive feedback.
Ability to foster an energetic atmosphere that enhances interpersonal connections and promotes a vibrant community within the Residences.
Experience on residence councils, and student councils is an asset.
Must be available to work at least two weeknights per week after business hours and holidays based on the operational needs of the department.
Available on weekends. Must be available to work up to 6 hours a week during business hours, across a minimum of 2 days.
