Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online Migration Consultant (Remote – Atlantic Time Zone, GMT-4)

This role supports large-scale Microsoft 365 migration programs involving multi-tenant environments, hybrid Exchange deployments, Teams Voice integrations, and complex legacy system modernization. The consultant will be responsible for planning, executing, and supporting enterprise-level Exchange Online migrations within government-scale environments.

Scope of Work

OneDrive & SharePoint Migrations

  • File share → OneDrive for Business migrations (100,000+ files per project)
  • SharePoint Server 2013/2016/2019 → SharePoint Online migrations
  • Metadata and permission structure preservation
  • Custom workflows, content types, and legacy structures migration
  • Multi-geo and tenant-to-tenant migration scenarios

Exchange Migration Scope

  • Exchange 2013/2016/2019 → Exchange Online (1,000–10,000+ mailboxes)
  • Hybrid coexistence configuration and cutover planning
  • Third-party email system migrations (Google Workspace, Lotus Notes, IMAP)
  • Public folder and shared mailbox migrations
  • Mail flow redesign, routing, and MX cutover coordination

Microsoft Teams Voice Deployment

  • Teams Phone System implementation with PSTN
  • AudioCodes One SBC deployment & configuration
  • Direct Routing architecture for enterprise voice
  • Legacy PBX → Teams migration projects
  • Call quality optimization, monitoring, and adoption enablement

Role Overview

This position requires a seasoned Exchange / Microsoft 365 migration consultant who can lead end-to-end mailbox migrations to Exchange Online. You must understand both on-premise Exchange environments and cloud-based Exchange Online, including hybrid coexistence, mail flow troubleshooting, and migration execution at scale.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end Exchange Server → Exchange Online migration projects
  • Architect and configure hybrid Exchange environments
  • Configure mail flow rules, connectors, transport settings
  • Perform mailbox migrations using native & third-party tools
  • Configure and validate DNS (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
  • Migrate public folders, shared mailboxes, distribution groups
  • Plan/execute cutover weekends with minimal business disruption
  • Provide post-migration support, troubleshooting, and stabilization

Required Technical Experience

  • 5+ years
    hands-on Exchange migration experience
  • 5+ enterprise migrations
    completed (500+ mailboxes each)
  • Expertise in Exchange 2013/2016/2019 and Exchange Online
  • Advanced PowerShell for Exchange/EXO administration
  • Deep knowledge of hybrid deployments and coexistence
  • Azure AD Connect & directory synchronization expertise
  • Strong SMTP, mail flow, and routing troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft 365 certifications (MS-203, MS-100, MS-101, MS-500)
  • Experience with MigrationWiz, Quest, AvePoint, or similar tools
  • Background in Google Workspace or Lotus Notes migrations
  • Experience with Exchange Online Protection & security tuning

Engagement Details

  • 100% Remote (Atlantic Time Zone)
  • Initial 6-month contract
    (project expected to run 2 years)
  • 30 hours/week

Ideal Candidate

A full-service consultant who understands the entire SDLC and can independently lead the technical migration work. Will be partnered with internal PM, Architect, and Support resources but will own the Exchange migration execution end-to-end.
