PUBLICATIONS EDITOR

(6 Month Contract)

The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) is an independent, non-partisan think tank whose peer-reviewed research, foresight and trusted analysis influence policy makers to innovate. With the engagement of a global network of experts and contributors, CIGI tackles the governance challenges and opportunities of data and transformative technologies, including AI, and their impact on the economy, security, democracy and, ultimately, societies. CIGI delivers independent world-leading research and analysis to influence policy on cutting-edge issues that intersect transformative technologies and governance.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Publications Editor is responsible for ensuring clarity, accuracy and quality of written outputs produced through CIGI's research programs. CIGI publications include policy briefs, papers, conference reports, working papers, opinions and other written materials.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Structural, substantive and copy editing of reports, papers and policy briefs for publication, as well as proofreading and reference checking.
  • Communicating with internal and external authors and editors.
  • Writing summaries of policy and research reports for a broad audience.
  • Working closely with graphic designers and making changes to publications in InDesign.
  • Uploading publications and other content to website.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • University degree or college diploma in English, communications, journalism or a related field or a diploma or certificate in publishing.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience editing in a research, publishing or think tank environment.
  • Proven experience working with academic and policy-based writing.
  • Strong structural, substantive and copyediting skills, as well as advanced proofreading and writing abilities.
  • Familiarity with the
    Chicago Manual of Style
    , including citations.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and experience using content management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, high standard of accuracy and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including researchers, communications professionals, scholars and policy specialists.
  • Knowledge of international relations, global governance and CIGI's research topics is considered an asset.

Note: This position is based at our CIGI Campus in Waterloo, Ontario, where employees have a hybrid work environment which requires them to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week.
