The goal of Marketing and Communications is to reach our defined audience to influence their behaviours by informing, persuading and reminding. We build brand awareness, encourage 'trial' and engagement, and maintain customer satisfaction by reinforcing brand benefits, communicating new service/products, and listening to their feedback. We build and reinforce relationships with current and future students, their families, staff, faculty, alumni, as well as other stakeholders. Some key elements of Marketing and Communications initiatives include but not limited to print and digital advertising, media relations, event marketing, direct marketing (mass email), promotion and sponsorship, etc.

Responsibilities

The Marketing Assistant - Graphic Design will assist in graphic design for the Division of Housing and Ancillary Services

Time Commitment

This role will require a commitment of 35 weekly hours from May to August, then 10-15 weekly hours from September to April.

Responsibilities
  • Primarily support in the design and development of marketing materials, including but not limited print and digital ads, posters, brochures, billboards, videos, website, etc.
  • Attend events and assist in capturing visual assets as needed
  • Assist in staging and capturing product photography for the food services and the bookstore
  • Conduct market research regarding other schools' marketing initiatives, visual presentation
  • Review existing marketing initiatives, organize focus group discussion, collect feedback
  • Assist in special projects in marketing and communications as required
  • The incumbent will take design guidance from the Digital Communication Specialist, and work productively and courteously with other members within the Division
Qualifications Education:
  • Currently enrolled at Western University and planning to return for full-time studies in the 2026–27 academic year
  • Enrolment in the Visual Arts or Media and Information Technology (MIT) programs is preferred
Experience:
  • Previous work experience in an administrative environment
  • Previous design work experience using professional design software would be an asset
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
  • Advanced computer skills with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom), Final Cut or Adobe Premiere, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write in both marketing and journalistic style
  • Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work assigned schedule
  • Ability to follow processes and practices with high attention to detail
  • Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western's policies and procedures
  • Ability to multi-task, to prioritize and maintain an organized work environment,
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable
