Position Summary
Huu-ay-aht First Nations is showing initiative and leadership in a concentrated effort to bring the nation's children home and to provide strong support to the Nation's citizens throughout the life cycle. This includes ensuring strong frontline support for Huu-ay-aht families and citizens. The Family Support Worker is a frontline staff member who provides strong support and preventive tools to Huu-ay-aht citizens to help them build healthy, strong family lives.
Key Accountabilities:
- Promoting child and family wellness through advocacy, direct support, and program activities.
- Support parents, extended families, and the community in protecting children from abuse and neglect.
- Build supportive, caring arrangements that draw on several family members and community members when necessary.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide immediate and consistent Nation involvement when working with protection services.
- Support crisis management and safety planning with families by ensuring that safety and advance plans are put in place before a crisis.
- Providing home and community-based support and prevention services to Huu-ay-aht First Nations children and families.
- Actively identify Huu-ay-aht supports.
- Navigating and coordinating proactive outreach services for Huu-ay-aht citizens throughout the lifecycle.
- Work with other Huu-ay-aht services and external resources to provide wrap-around, life cycle care for Huu-ay-aht citizens.
- Build family-specific supports with strength-based and solution-focused practice.
- Focus on healing from intergenerational trauma.
- Promotes healthy lifestyles and relationships with clients and proactive service representatives.
- Facilitates health and wellness groups and individual support programs.
- Develops and facilitates parent education opportunities.
- Supports clients through a strength-based, solution-focused practice.
- Attends family planning and case management meetings.
- Work effectively and productively within the Huu-ay-aht organization during the evolution of and transition to strengthened service provision to Huu-ay-aht families.
- Provides after-hours and weekend child protection support.
- Maintains client files and all other required forms of documentation in a thorough, clear, and concise manner.
- Performs regular reporting of activities and program statistics as required.
Operational Requirements
- Valid class 5 driver's license
- Some travel, including overnight and or weekends.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime, including evenings and or weekends.
- Successful background checks, employment verification, criminal record checks, including vulnerable persons, reference checks, and education/credential verification.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Diploma in Human Services, or experience advocating for families within the community, wellness planning, and social services
- Understanding of intergenerational experiences and wellness pathway
- Experience working with First Nations people, knowledge of issues unique to First Nations people, and demonstrated cultural sensitivity.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience using Microsoft Programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Experience with online platforms.
- Ability to work in a performance-focused, fast-paced environment in alignment with Huu-ay-aht First Nations values, culture, and business goals.
