Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Senior Design Engineer, Transportation, to join our Mobility Advisory group in western Canada. We are looking for an experienced Transportation Design Engineer to help shape the future of municipal roadway, active transportation, linear infrastructure, and transit projects across the Western Canada.

This role will offer the opportunity to lead meaningful, visible projects that improve communities and move people more safely and sustainably.
Working with a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary team, this role will apply deep municipal roadway design expertise to deliver technically robust, constructible solutions. Responsibilities span detailed calculations and model creation through drawing production, plans, section details, specifications, and engineering reports.

This team is a part of our Mobility Global Business Area. We partner with our clients across the globe to design thriving and connected cities and communities that enable opportunity for all and keep the world moving. Climate change, urbanization and digitization trends are requiring today's mobility projects and systems to address an evolving set of demands from the world's growing population. We design connected, sustainable solutions that integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and optimize the mobility of people and goods.

Role accountabilities:

In this role you will provide transportation engineering design and technical expertise with a clear focus on municipal roadway projects, taking responsibility for detailed calculations, model creation, and drawing production while developing plans, cross-sections, pavement and curb details, associated engineering reports, and contract specifications for a wide variety of infrastructure works.

You will prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed cost estimates and rigorously review project documents prior to issue to verify scope, presentation, and technical accuracy—ensuring compliance with municipal standards, constructability, and procurement readiness.

The role involves coordinating the delivery of technical designs to meet cost, schedule, and quality objectives by producing full design packages and working closely with other engineering disciplines and technical specialists to integrate roadway design with utilities, drainage, traffic control, and environmental requirements while meeting stakeholder and municipal criteria.

This position requires applying a working knowledge of stormwater analysis and design together with strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills; you will be task-oriented, committed to high-quality work and attention to detail, and able to work independently and effectively within diverse project teams to deliver reliable, constructible municipal roadway solutions.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's University Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering
  • P.Eng in Alberta or BC
  • 8-15 years of municipal infrastructure and roadway design experience at increasing levels of responsibility
  • Experience with integrating new civil infrastructure with existing infrastructure will be an asset
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D for design purposes is required
