This is a student position that is 4 months in duration for the term: January-April. You must be a student registered in a Canadian College or University. This position is for students returning to school after their work term or requiring a placement as requirements for graduation. While not required, preference will be given to students enrolled in a registered Co-op program.

We are seeking a Data Science Intern with a strong foundation in AI engineering, machine learning, and data science to help build the next generation of intelligent systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies including Large Language Models (LLMs), AI Agents, and Model Customization Platforms (MCP), contributing to real-world applications that drive business transformation. This is a hybrid role, requiring the successful student to come into the Toronto office three times per week.
What You'll Do
- LLM & Agent Development: Assist in building and fine-tuning LLMs and autonomous agents for internal and customer-facing applications (e.g., intelligent assistants, document summarization, customer support automation).
- Model Customization & Deployment: Work with MCP tools to customize foundation models for specific business domains using techniques like transfer learning, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
- AI Engineering: Develop and deploy scalable AI solutions using modern frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Microsoft Agent Framework, OpenAI, Azure AI Studio).
- Data Science & ML: Create predictive models and conduct exploratory data analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Cloud-Native Development: Build and deploy ML pipelines on Microsoft Azure, leveraging services like Azure Machine Learning, Azure OpenAI, and Databricks.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities and deliver impactful solutions.
- Research & Innovation: Stay current with emerging trends in generative AI, multimodal models, and responsible AI practices.
What You Bring
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Data Science, Computer Science, AI, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL; familiarity with libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, and Transformers.
- Experience or coursework in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative AI, or Reinforcement Learning.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (preferably Azure) and distributed computing tools (e.g., Spark, Databricks).
- Understanding of modern AI architectures including LLMs, Vector Databases, Embeddings, and Prompt Engineering.
- Ability to work in agile environments and contribute to fast-paced, iterative development cycles.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
The base salary for this position is between
$44,700
- $67,000
annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
For our student opportunities, the base salary will be dependent on the number of work terms you have completed along with other factors depending on your program.
